Diane Ravitch: School privatization is a hoax, “reformers” aim to destroy public schools. As long as anyone can remember, critics have been saying that the schools are in decline. They used to be the best in the world, they say, but no longer. They used to have real standards, but no longer. They used to have discipline, but no longer. What the critics seldom acknowledge is that our schools have changed as our society has changed. But the students in the college-bound track of fifty years ago did not get the high quality of education that is now typical in public schools with Advanced Placement courses or International Baccalaureate programs or even in the regular courses offered in our top city and suburban schools.

The claim that the public schools are in decline is not new. There is a tendency nowadays to hark back with nostalgia to the mythical good old days, usually imagined as about forty or fifty years ago. Indifferent to history, today’s corporate reformers insist that the public schools are in an unprecedented crisis. Human Rights. Gamesjolt.com. Games for Change. Co.Design | business + design. While there’s no ‘blood test’ for a good logo, here’s a few pointers Well, if that ain’t the question to end it all – “What makes a good (or even great) logo?” Despite having been in the business for over twenty years (eek – though The Logo Factory® has been around for almost fifteen of that) and having been privy to the creation of thousands of logos (as both a designer and a CD at the shop) it’s still a difficult question. Naturally, we all know a good logo design when we see it. Just like many of our clients. And, conversely, we can identify a bad logo just as quickly.

Unfortunately, these are but our opinions – we ’d argue ‘educated’ opinions – but opinions nonetheless. What about a litmus test for what makes a good logo and on the flip side, a bad one? Concept & Execution – Hallmarks of a ‘Great’ design Using a few logo design examples from our portfolio, let’s take a look at effective concept and execution and how these two factors ‘play out’ to make a ‘good logo’.. Following on from, Using Design Principles to Create Exceptional Vector Illustrations, today we have a collection of digital illustrations that highlight the primary elements of design.

Design elements are the building blocks that are used to create an image. These include, line, color and shape. Although they may seem basic, if you take the time to think about the elements and how they can be used, you will have a better understanding of your creations - and perhaps think of a few new ideas too! What are the FACS Manual and Investigator's Guide? The Facial Action Coding System (FACS) Manual is a detailed, technical guide that explains how to categorize facial behaviors based on the muscles that produce them, i.e., how muscular action is related to facial appearances. It illustrates appearance changes of the face using written descriptions, still images, and digital video examples. Behavioral scientists, CG animators, computer scientists interested in pattern recognition programs, and other technicians and scientists use FACS in their professional work when they need to know the exact movements that the face can perform, and what muscles produce them.

Working through the exercises of the FACS Manual may also enable greater awareness of and sensitivity to subtle facial behaviors that could be useful for psychotherapists, interviewers, and other practitioners who must penetrate deeply into interpersonal communications. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party (or National Socialist German Worker’s Party) created in the Third Reich the most extreme and terrifying example of a totalitarian regime the world has ever seen.

It is often wondered quite how a sophisticated and highly developed 20th century nation was politically overpowered by the Nazis. One answer, and a major factor in the Nazi’s effectiveness as a political force, was that not only did they ruthlessly deploy violence against dissidence, but they also utterly mastered the art of propaganda, fabricating a national ideology around their twisted beliefs. Here we take a look at some of their most evil and insidiously effective propaganda techniques. 10. Posters - Using symbolic imagery Hitler and his leaders understood the power of propaganda in conveying the party line, and poster art was often at the heart of the publicity machine. 9. 8.

The roots of online casinos can be traced back to the late 20th century when advancements in internet technology paved the way for the emergence of virtual gambling platforms.

Here's a brief overview of the key milestones and developments in the history of online casinos: Antigua and Barbuda: In 1994, the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda passed the Free Trade & Processing Act, which allowed for the licensing of online casinos. This legislation laid the foundation for the legal operation of internet-based gambling businesses.

Dutch Law Firm Uses Video Game to Evaluate Law Graduates' Talent. Legal Marketing & Consulting Posted Feb 17, 2011 6:04 PM CDT By Laala Al Jaber, Sarah Randag The trailer for Houthoff Buruma's "The Game. " “The Game,” which picked up an award in the Best Use of Technology to Support Marketing Efforts category at the recent 2011 Hubbard One Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards, dominated discussions at the Scottsdale, Ariz., event.

Dutch law firm Houthoff Buruma teamed up with Ranj Serious Games to create “The Game” to help the firm "find the talented students since grades often have nothing to do with it," Legal Current reported. Players of "The Game"—graduating law students in the Netherlands—are given a complex legal scenario wherein they must represent a Chinese state-owned company as it plans to take over a Dutch family company.

The players are split into teams of up to five people, given 90 minutes to confront problems as they arise and persuade enough shareholders to sell their shares.
