Weekend Art Project « The New Domestic

We’ve been wanting a large scale art-piece to go up on our dining room wall. We had a large framed photograph up but, at 26″ x 32″, it didn’t have the right scale for the room. We wanted to go big. Like, 60″ x 36″ big. Now the last time either of us did any painting was in art school. Inspired by color field paintings, I made a sketch in Illustrator and we tried different color combinations til we were happy. Update: To complete the dining area, we painted a high chair red to add another splash of color to the room. Also, congrats to everyone who has been DIYing there own versions of the Weekend Art Project. If you love this style of geometric art, patterns and triangles visit our shop.

Fabric Panels: How To

Thank you for the nice comments about my new studio - if I could, I'd have everyone over for tea, lemon scones, and crafty conversation :) My fabric panels are super simple and I wanted to share how I made them. The inspiration was what many of us face when we have fabric we love but can't bear to cut it - what to do? I used foam core, double stick tape (I like poster tape especially or ones available for scrapbookers) and wall putty to put them all together. Cut your foam core to accommodate the piece of fabric that you are using.

Place the double stick along the edges of the foam core, gently pull the fabric over each corner and press down onto the tape, and then working from opposite sides, gently pull taut the fabric along the sides and press down onto the tape. I used wall putty to put them up so I wouldn't have a bunch of little holes in the wall. DIY: Quotes on Canvas. Pinterest.

DIY: Quotes on Canvas

I have a love/hate relationship with it. Most days, I love searching the site, finding cute outfits or kitchen designs for my "dream home. " It's the other days when I come across peoples DIY projects when I'm like how in world did they do that? Or have TIME to do that??? Some of those braided hairstyles...come on! Confession: Crafting is my favorite sport. For the next few weeks, I'm going to be posting my attempts at some popular Pinterest projects (or PPP's?). First up: DIY Quotes on Canvas I "pinned" this project thinking that is such a cute idea and looks totally doable!
