Plant Guilds Booklet Midwest US Permaculture. We teach the fundamentals of plant guild design at every Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course we host. Here is our Upcoming Schedule From the Forward of the Plant Guild eBooklet As Midwest Permaculture grew, so did the number of requests from people looking for information and recommendations concerning what plants to add or combine to an existing tree on their landscape to create a useful plant guild.

Plant Guilds Booklet Midwest US Permaculture

We referred them to Midwest Permaculture’s “Official Plant Guy”, Bryce Ruddock, who chairs the discussions of Plant Guilds on our networking site. Eventually, we asked Bryce to design some foundational guilds as every day examples that would help guide those who are new to permaculture. After he completed these we asked a PDC student of ours, Jesse Tinges, to use his landscape architectural skills to create the sketches. The team effort that emerged to create this booklet is actually a good example of how guilds, plant or human, really work together. Please use, experiment and enjoy! hugelkultur: the ultimate raised garden beds

I'm an american doofus, so I say "hoogle culture". I learned this high-falootin word at my permaculture training. Hugelkultur is nothing more than making raised garden beds filled with rotten wood. I do think there are some considerations to keep in mind. Another thing to keep in mind is that wood is high in carbon and will consume nitrogen to do the compost thing. Pine and fir will have some levels of tanins in them, but I'm guessing that most of that will be gone when the wood has been dead for a few years. In the drawings at right, the artist is trying to show that while the wood decomposes and shrinks, the leaves, duff and accumulating organic matter from above will take it's place. You can pre-order a copy through April 30th and help make it possible for me to get this book out soon. Breadfruit is a remarkable staple starch that grows on trees. This species should be much more widely grown in the humid tropics. It represents a fully-developed perennial staple crop. Staple fruits provide starch, protein, and fats from fresh fruits. These “superfruits” can and should play an important role in carbon-sequestering agriculture, agroforestry, and productive reforestation efforts. As my standard I determined that fruits should be used as a starchy vegetable or, when fresh, should demonstrate at least 5% protein or fat. Peach palm is a nutritious staple palm fruit.
