But because of so many features we have to sacrifice on the performance or memory utilization. I was amazed when I looked at the amount of RAM some of these browsers consume, to have all these features running. I for one don’t use most of these features. I don’t want to sacrifice on performance or stability. I came across this browser with a low foot print, Firefox Light. When it comes to other popular browser like Google Chrome, well it’s the same story, instead of one instance, it creates multiple processes which are supposed to improve the performance, but I have not found any difference. But I found that Firefox Light works very well when it comes to usage and memory consumption.

However, these features can have have a negative impact on the browser's speed and memory footprint. In fact, many users do not require all those features -- especially developers, who want to work quickly and without unnecessary frills. In this article, I examine five lesser-known free Web browsers: Dillo, Epiphany, Konqueror, Lynx and Midori. Each browser has its strengths and weaknesses, I've discovered. How I tested For this review, I tested the five browsers on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB RAM using Ubuntu 13.04.

To measure browser speed, I used the Speed-Battle test from U-Double-U. (Note: Two of the browsers, Dillo and Lynx, could not be tested with any of the above applications because neither supports JavaScript.)
