Transhumanism is defined as "the intellectual and cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally improving the human condition through applied reason, especially by using technology to eliminate aging and greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities" - Nick Bostrum, 1999.

Transhumanism/Posthumanism - The Human Future

A posthuman would no longer be a human being, having been so significantly altered as to no longer represent the human species. Underlying this worldview is a core belief that the human species in its current form does not represent the end of our development, but rather its beginning - Nick Bostrum, 1999. Transhumans, short for "transitional humans," are "the earliest manifestation of new evolutionary beings, on their way to becoming posthumans" - FM-2030.

Transhumanism is sometimes seen as a form of transformational activism influenced by posthumanist ideals. Posthumanism seeks to rewrite the very definition of being human. Covering technological, scientific, and cultural trends that are changing. Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies.

Ray Kurzweil is the leading proponent of the idea that accelerating technologies will lead to discontinuous social change and intimate nano-neural communication with computers within decades. Drexler, Eric. 1986. The Hedonistic Imperative. The Hedonistic Imperative outlines how genetic engineering and nanotechnology will abolish suffering in all sentient life.

The Hedonistic Imperative

The abolitionist project is hugely ambitious but technically feasible. It is also instrumentally rational and morally urgent. The metabolic pathways of pain and malaise evolved because they served the fitness of our genes in the ancestral environment. They will be replaced by a different sort of neural architecture - a motivational system based on heritable gradients of bliss. States of sublime well-being are destined to become the genetically pre-programmed norm of mental health. Two hundred years ago, powerful synthetic pain-killers and surgical anesthetics were unknown.

THE ETHICS OF THE CYBORG

“The Future Is Ours” Video Inspires Hope In Technology And Human Progress. "The Future Is Ours" video profiles those who are shaping the future with their vision and optimism. In a recent TED talk titled “Abundance Is Our Future,” Peter Diamandis points out that though the amygdala in our brains may continually draw our attention toward negative news stories — and therefore help perpetuate a pessimistic view that the world is getting worse — the technological progress over that last century should fill us with an incredible optimism about the future. In homage to Peter’s message as well as the work of many entrepreneurs, innovators, and scientists, a new video called “The Future Is Ours” inspires this hope in technology with a mashup of presentations, speeches, and YouTube videos. The Cyborg Pocket. Borna Pleše The term cyborg has become so ingrained in popular culture that the invocation of it instantly reminds many people of bad science fiction, the kind produced long enough ago that it represented the future in a year that we've already left behind us.

More often than not, the term has become a throw-away line for unimaginative script writers, and many of us now associate it with cheesy sci-fi rather than real technological development.
