Lateral Power and the Third Industrial Revolution

The youth of the world took to the streets to protest the injustices of autocratic political regimes and rapacious business interests, and to demand the basic human right to participate as equal citizens in the affairs of society. On October 15th, millions of young people – and their parents and grandparents – swarmed onto the streets in large cities and small towns around the world, decrying an economic system that favours the rich 1% at the expense of 99% of the people.

The protesters are frustrated by a lack of jobs. They are angry over governments giving bailouts to global banks and subsidising corporate giants, whilst cutting vital public services to the middle class and poor. Digbeth. Digbeth was almost certainly the site of Birmingham's birth when Berma's tribe chose to settle in the River Rea valley during the 7th Century A.D.

Digbeth

The town which grew from this small settlement came to be famous as a place of opportunity where people with a wide assortment of skills, and from many regions of both Britain and the rest of the world, could make a successful living. The "city of a thousand trades" was no idle boast - and for centuries those who wanted to be part of Birmingham life were most likely to find a home in Digbeth. It was Digbeth's plentiful water supply which acted as a magnet - not only the River Rea, but also the area's natural springs. In fact the name Digbeth is believed to have originally been 'Duck's bath' - a quaint description of one of these springs. Transforming Birmingham’s City Centre. Digbeth. Desciption From the earliest beginnings at the heart of the city’s industrial development, the Digbeth area has constantly evolved to meet changes, reinventing itself and adapting the built environment to meet the needs of new uses.

Digbeth

Today the area is home to an established and growing creative sector that utilises the historic building stock, creating innovative spaces for business. It is fast becoming a hub for digital media, gaming and arts companies complemented by a diverse cultural and nightlife scene. There are a range of opportunities for new or converted workspaces, offices and complementary uses served by excellent public transport facilities and within walking distance of the City Core.
