DIY Botanical Silhouette Decorating the home will involve at some point, working with your walls. In one way or another, you are bound to eventually feel the urge to paint them. But most of the times, (re)designing or (re)painting walls have a more permanent impact than paintings do. So, before you change the look and feeling of your home in a semi-permanent manner, try the relatively temporary and simpler way. Grab these items: • a couple of brushes (thin and thick); • a piece of paper; • a board of canvas; • a twig of leaves; • a small bowl; • a bottle of acrylic paint; • a can of spray paint; • a can of spray adhesive;

AT Europe: Paris - Valérie Boy at Salon Maison et Objet It was love at first sight. A few years ago, I found the perfect light sculpture for a dark corner of my apartment by an artist working in Brittany named Valérie Boy ... It was the first annual pre-Christmas Salon de la Récup, that featured a few dozen up-and-coming artists working mostly with recuperated materials, taking place a few doors down from me at the Espace Blanc Manteaux. “Féérie Florale” was a six-foot-tall rectangular piece of white powder-coated metal out of which Valérie Boy had hand-cut a spray of flowers. She strung waterproof Christmas lights on the backside of the piece, which looked like a carved sculpture by day, and a poetic constellation of glowing flower-fairy lights (or stars from across the room) by night.

DIY Elbow Patch While perusing Pinterest one evening, I came across an intriguing tutorial on the wonderful art of needle felting. I had to learn more – especially after realizing it entailed repeatedly stabbing a needle up and down into a piece of fabric or sweater. A satisfying stress reliever that results in something wearable? Sign me up. And now that I can officially call myself a needle felting maven (and nerd), trust me when I say that you’re going to have a blast with this technique. DIY: Wearable words When I was looking around for tutorials on making paper beads, I found some really striking "book beads" and accessories, now collected in this post. I understand (after all the browsing) that you can make really durable "beads" easily ... very little time, skill or money required. Woohoo! Who doesn't need more jewelery?

make a crocheted necklace - wise craft After a busy week of deadlines, topped off with replacing a laptop after mine died (the night before one of those big deadlines), I had a nice relaxing morning yesterday, crocheting these sweet little necklaces. Trust me when I say, these are quick and easy if you have crochet experience. And fun! If you crochet a chain stitch and a slip stitch, you can make these. And if you've never done it, adding the beads is no sweat at all
