grade 5 You need: white drawing sheet, 15 by 21 cm (A5 size) pencil ruler eraser markers This is a great lesson for the beginning of the school: a name tag in the style of painter Paul Klee. This drawing can also be used for the birthday calendar that each group makes at the beginning of the school year. Paul Klee Fun with the Impossible Penrose Triangle I found this delightful animation today: The ball is traveling around a shape that can’t exist in our real world: the Penrose triangle. This illusion is the basis for some cool art, like Escher’s Waterfall. And I’m using it in my Math You Can Play books as a design on the back of my playing cards: Want to Play Around with the Penrose Triangle?

Photographer Laurent Lavender Plays with the Moon In his ongoing series of photos titled Moon Games, French photographer Laurent Lavender has subjects play with a rising moon, effectively tansforming it into a balloon, a painting, and even a scoop of ice cream. The dreamlike photos have been turned into a calendar and a (French-only) book of poetry as well as a few other objects. You can see more of his work over on Facebook. (via IFLScience)

Paper Plate Ship's Porthole There have been many versions of this classic paper plate craft. This paper plate porthole has a different version as well, called the paper plate aquarium. When I created this particular project several years ago, I wanted it to look like your were peering through a ship’s porthole. This was originally published on Kaboose, then that site sold to Spoonful and it didn’t transfer for one reason or another. So I’m putting it up here because it’s one of my favorites! Hope you have fun making it!
