Martin was nominated for a Pulitzer prize for his book, The Wired Society: A Challenge for Tomorrow (1977).[3][4] James Martin was born on 19 October 1933 in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, England. [citation needed] He earned a degree in physics at Keble College, Oxford. He was awarded an honorary fellowship by Keble and an honorary DSc by Warwick University in July 2009. Martin joined IBM in 1959, and since the 1980s established several IT consultancy firms. Since the 1990s, he lived on his own private island, Agar’s Island, in Bermuda, where he died on 24 June 2013, apparently in a swimming accident.[5] According to Computerworld’s 25th anniversary issue, he was ranked fourth among the 25 individuals who have most influenced the world of computer science.[6] Information Engineering (IE) is an approach to designing and developing information systems. 1965.

He published 67 textbooks with Prentice-Hall, the world’s leading textbook publisher. The revenue from this and associated lectures and videos provided the funds for establishing the Oxford Martin School at Oxford University – the largest benefaction to Oxford in its almost 900-year history.
