FORTUNE -- Dear Annie: I was intrigued by your column about online degree programs, because lately I've been interviewing candidates for a department head position at my company. The people who have held this job before have been MBAs, as are the most promising people I'm considering right now, but there's a catch. Two of them, both highly qualified in terms of experience, got their graduate business degrees online -- one from a school I've never heard of (which I realize doesn't necessarily mean anything, since I'm hardly an expert on the subject). Can you tell me how to evaluate an online MBA degree? — Stumped in SoHo

A new Wharton admissions test fuels a consulting boom

Duke University's Fuqua School of Business ( Poets&Quants ) -- Practically every 20-something has a "five-year plan," an idea of where they want to be by the end of that time and a rough idea of how they are going to get there. And, like all plans, they are never as straightforward or simple as they may initially seem. Tyler Louie's five-year plan was as straightforward as they come. http://management.fortune.cnn.com/2012/07/31/specialty-mba-growth/

The admissions department of my MBA school called me recently and asked if I would attend a reception for the new batch of prospective and accepted students. I responded to the request politely: I could not come. After all, if I did show up, I would not be able to provide romanticised answers that were needed to bait and hook the next intake. I would be the tofu-eating fisherman who had gone vegan, telling them to stay in their jobs and chase their professional dreams by building up their professional experience. http://news.efinancialcareers.com/75978/the-runaway-mba-when-employers-hear-mba-they-assume-you-are-overpriced-and-inexperienced-my-advice-to-prospective-studentsdont-do-it-2/

What Makes an Executive M.B.A. Different

http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2010/04/15/what-makes-an-executive-mba-different About eight years ago, Devang Parikh considered his options: quit his job in Boston and pursue a traditional, full-time M.B.A. or continue working and climbing the corporate ladder. Then, life solved Parikh's dilemma for him. Parikh, now 32, got a new job with Pfizer, and the salary he was earning, combined with the cost of school, made going to school full time difficult. So, when the itch to continue his education came back, he tried another route—one where he could keep working and still get an advanced degree, an executive M.B.A.

Santa Clara University School of Engineering - The T Model

Here at SCU, we have adopted the “T-model” of engineering education—a deep technical core comprised of math, science, engineering, and design (the vertical stem, centered in the left brain), paired with a broad set of soft skills that are essential for success: communication, ethics, entrepreneurial mindset, creativity, and a global view (the horizontal arm of the “T,” centered in the right brain). In today’s global marketplace, the T-model will define future successful engineers who must be innovative, ethical, humanistic, and able to communicate clearly in a multicultural environment while effectively managing complex projects staffed with interdisciplinary teams located around the world. Of course, this is what we strive for at SCU—to impart to our students the knowledge, skills, vision, and heart necessary to take on the challenges of the 21st century. http://www.scu.edu/engineering/centennial/tmodel.cfm
