Sociolinguistics: Language Contacts and Language Policy - Master’s Degree Programme in Linguistic Sciences

The MDP in Linguistic Sciences is focused on language as medium of communication in various contexts. Each sub-programme has advantages that are of particular currency in present-day linguistics: technological applications are increasingly important in linguistic research and the translation industry, while globalization and linguistic diversity in societies call for skilled experts in the fields of language policy, education, and communication.

The objectives of the MDP include in-depth understanding of the focal issues, theories and methods of the corresponding sub-programme to the extent that after completing their MA the students are able to carry out independent research and are eligible to pursue doctoral studies in their field of specialisation. No tuition fees will be charged from the students, but there is an obligatory Student Union membership fee. The membership fee for one academic year is approximately €110. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.

An American going to graduate school in Europe

I was wondering if anyone on the forum has gone through the process of studying in Europe as an American. I'm wondering about all aspects of the process from applying, to finding work in another country, to funding, to housing, etc, etc. Also, I never studied abroad either so any insight is appreciated. I'm actually starting grad school in Europe this fall, after 4 years of studying in the U.S. Thank you for all the information.
