Step 3 To a mortar and pestle, add the shallots, garlic, candlenuts, coriander seeds, and salt. Step 4 Drain the skewers and assemble the satay: Thread the mushrooms over and under and making folds, all the way to the tip of the skewers; keep the pieces compact on one end, leaving several inches exposed on the other end.

Step 5 Build a medium-hot fire in one side of a charcoal grill, then arrange the coals for two-zone cooking. Step 6 Once your grill is hot, lightly oil the grates, then position the satay over the medium-high heat, allowing the exposed ends of the skewers to extend outside the grill, away from the flame. Step 7 Meanwhile, pour the kecap manis over a large plate.

This post was recently updated! Healthy Broccoli Soup I love this broccoli soup for its health benefits AND taste. I originally made it as Whole30 and paleo broccoli soup, so I didn’t use any dairy or flour to thicken it. Well, the hack is using some white potatoes. This soup is quite satiating and can be served as a main dish. PS. Olive Pesto To go with the soup, I made a nut and olive pesto. These toppings would also work well instead of the pesto: crispy bacon bits, fried shallots, shredded chicken or diced smoked chicken, sun-dried tomato pesto or basil pesto. Nutrition Notes For a vegetarian dish, it’s very nutrient-dense.

This healthy broccoli soup is paleo, gluten-free, Whole30, vegetarian and vegan-friendly.

Every recipe has a story and today’s Vanilla Cardamom Cheesecake (with Macadamia crumble) has quite a few. To start with, I didn’t like cheesecake much till I got to attend this year’s In One Voice Jewish festival and experienced the cheesecake competition. That’s when I realized that I have been eating bad cheesecakes all this while and the real deal is delicious.

Those who follow me on Facebook or Instagram would have seen the pictures from this event, especially the one where I got to have a small chat with Alice Zaslavsky, popularly known as ‘Alice in Frames’ (Masterchef fame). Alice was the judge at the cheesecake competition which saw a delicious array of sweet and savoury cheesecakes. I decided to try out the winner’s cheesecake and much to my surprise found that it was nothing like the ones I had tasted before that. But that plan didn’t work out for a long time till now which brings us to the second story. If you notice the photographs, you will see a crack on the surface. Others:
