Rep-tile

Four copies of the sphinx can be put together as shown to make a larger sphinx. A selection of rep-tiles, including the sphinx, two fish and the 5-triangle Terminology[edit] A rep-tile is labelled rep-n if the dissection uses n copies. Such a shape necessarily forms the prototile for a tiling of the plane, in many cases an aperiodic tiling. Examples[edit] Defining an aperiodic tiling (the pinwheel tiling) by repeatedly dissecting and inflating a rep-tile. Every square, rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, or triangle is rep-4. A right triangle with side lengths in the ratio 1:2 is rep-5, and its rep-5 dissection forms the basis of the aperiodic pinwheel tiling. The international standard ISO 216 defines sizes of paper sheets using the Lichtenberg ratio, in which the long side of a rectangular sheet of paper is the square root of two times the short side of the paper.

Download this grid onto your own computer by right-clicking on it, clicking on 'Save Picture As', and saving it into a folder. Then you can open it in Paint or other paint software, and colour it in as you want, by using Fill (the paint-pot). In Windows, you can find Paint by clicking on Start, then Programs, then Accessories. Of course, you can also colour it in with crayons, felt tips or real paint! Equations

EQUATIONS is the Game of Creative Mathematics. EQUATIONS involves authentic learning experiences and problem solving at the highest levels. All grade levels play with the same set of procedural rules. However, each division level of competition introduces increasingly more difficult mathematical concepts for the players to use. Players are challenged to use their mathematical knowledge and ability and to develop new skills in progressively more competitive ways. Elementary Division (grades 4-6) players concentrate on the six basic mathematical operations (+ – x ÷ ^). Middle Division (grades 7-8) players continue to use everything that is available to the Elementary Division as well as new concepts such as working in bases other than base ten, fractional and negative powers and roots, and other challenging middle division variations.

How do You Play? EQUATIONS was invented by Yale Professor Layman Allen in about 1960.
