ThursDIY: 8-foot giant squid pillow | PW Style | A blog about style, fashion, beauty, arts and culture by Philadelphia Weekly. Me and Squiddartha So I love to make things as presents; the idea of giving someone something that nobody else has is much more appealing to me than giving someone another book or DVD. I thought that I’d share some of my projects here so that other people can try them if they want. I do ask that if you make one, you send me a picture at eguendelsberger@philadelphiaweekly.com for my gallery of squids.

So to start off, I thought I’d post instructions on how to make my boyfriend’s 2008 Christmas present: an 8-foot giant squid pillow. You’ll need: 2 yards of felt1 yard of patterned fabric (I suggest a polka dot-type pattern so it looks like suction cups)1 medium piece of black felt, 1 medium piece of white felt (for the eyes)white thread, black thread and thread of the same color as the felt you’re usingpinsabout 5 lbs. of stuffinga couple big sheets of paper to draw your pattern First, you need to draw out your patterns. Once you’ve drawn out your eight patterns, it’s time to cut the fabric. Stuffed Fawn. Stegosaurus. Stuffed dinosaur. Its length is 18 centimeters. This work is boring, but not difficult.

Cut out every parts without seam allowance. Fold the root of a leg and sew the dart with back stitch from inside. Fold the bony plate of the back and sew 1 millimeter inside. This process makes the plates stand. Sew the back to the body from outside. Sew the belly to the body. Stuff polyester fiberfill in the body, legs and spikes. Attach the eyes. Finished. Green stegosaur. Stegosaurus pattern. Panda pouch. GEEKY OWL BAG - Kona version fabric by happysewlucky for sale on Spoonflower. To embed this, cut and paste the following html into your web page: Although the Linen would be my recommended fabric choice for this pattern, a few people have requested that I leave the Kona size pattern up as it is more affordable, and because some people prefer a softer bag. You decide which you prefer. Apologies for the delay with the revised file for the linen. Thanks! One for all the hipster nerds out there!

Messenger style bag 9.5" x 9.5" x 3" deep. The two wings for side pockets make easy access for your cell phone & keys. Natty's Birds of a Feather Costume Tutorial. The quick little bunny tutorial. I really wanted to make the sock bunny that Heidi (from My Paper Crane) created, but I didn’t have any of those fantastic red and brown monkey socks.

What I do have is baby socks: tons of cute, mismatched, totally useless, never stay on baby socks. Now that my littlest is very much not an infant and too soon will be a toddler it seems kind of silly to keep all those teeny tiny socks. So I made a bunny out of them. And a tutorial too. This is indeed a quick little bunny. Materials: baby socka handful of stuffingheavy duty threadscissors Make that bunny: Before you start sewing take second to look at the sock you have. The body: Take some stuffing and stuff the foot part of the sock–not too tight!

The tail: On the top of the bunny’s back, sew a circle about an inch in diameter with a simple running stitch. The head: To make the head, put a little stuffing inside the sock and sew a running stitch around the top of the heel. The ears: Cut a big V shape out of the top of the sock. Project excerpted from More Softies Only a Mother Could Love: 22 Hapless but Lovable Friends to Sew and Crochet I based this giraffe pattern on a collage I made out of vintage paper. After being inspired by other "giraffe makers,” I decided to turn the design into a three-dimensional toy. This is the result. Finished size: 25 cm × 10 cm (10 in × 4 in) Tools • Tracing paper • Fabric marker • Scissors • Pins • Sewing needle • Sewing machine • Stuffing stick (or chopstick) materials • Body fabric – a 30 cm × 40 cm (12 in × 16 in) piece of patterned fabric for the body, and a 20 cm × 25 cm (8 in × 10 in) piece of the same fabric for the gusset and ears Template Softies Giraffe Cut-Out Pattern Template Instructions 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
