A Japanese Book

Joji 'George' HASHIGUCHI HASHIGUCHI Jôji (transliterated as 'George') is a Japanese photographer and a writer, who started photo-document in the early 1980s with communities of outcasts, gangs and drug dealers in the West and Japan ( Oretachi , magazine works), and Berlin both before and after the fall of the Wall ( Berlin , Die Mauer , Jiyu , the 2-volume novel Berlin Monogatari , etc.). Thereafter and non-exclusively, starting with Seventeen's Map , Hashiguchi has worked on the vast project of 'understanding Japan and the Japanese' through subjective thematic cuts through the Japanese society (17 years old, fathers, couples, elderly, children, etc.), travel and random encounters, during which were taken photographs and sociological data. http://www.ajapanesebook.com/

The embroidery is a mixture of translating snippets of reference images straight from sketchbooks as well as using thread in a more loose, mark making way. I became kind of caught between these two ways of thinking and in the end the whole thing became a bit too tight and more visual/illustrative,- half way through the process I just wanted to stick the needle in and out in a more unthoughtful manner.
