Summer Garden Granny Square

There's just something about creating little stacks of them that is hugely satisfying. They are versatile, and easy for beginners to learn because the basic stitches and method of working "in the round" are simple to get to grips with. It's how I first learnt to crochet 18 months ago, and I still get a huge amount of pleasure from making granny squares. This particular square, which I am calling my Summer Garden Granny Square, is my own pattern. It came about after I had an idea of making squares for a blanket, which when all assembled together would resemble a garden blooming with summer flowers. So :: For my blanket squares (pictured above) I'm using a DK weight pure wool, with a 4mm hook.

I'm going to write the pattern in UK crochet terms where the main stitch is a UK Treble. Stitches used are as follows: sl st (slip stitch) :: insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch, then through the loop on your hook. To Start :: Tardis Crochet. Hi everyone.

My sweeper had been languishing in my closet because I had no refills when I realized I could crochet my own reusable cover from some yarn I already had in my stash. I came up with this reversible version that’s loopy on one side (to grab the dust) and flat on the other (for damp mopping). This “sock” is fun and quick to crochet, easy to complete with scraps, and a great use for acrylic yarns, since they create static, which makes dust and hair cling. Once you’re done dusting, you can brush the excess dirt and dust into the trash bin (really, it’s okay to touch dirt!) And then throw the sock in the washer and dryer with your other laundry. Materials About 125 yards of worsted weight acrylic yarn in two colors: 75 yards in color A and 50 yards in color B. Crochet lends itself beautifully to a number of things, and one of those is jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets and brooches. I love making these small accessories between larger projects. Even if you don't have a lot of time, you can whip up a little something with a beautiful result. This time around, I wanted to make a brooch in the shape of a multilayered flower.

The flower here is crocheted in DMC Senso, a fingering weight cotton or cotton blend yarn (depending on the type of Senso used), with a 2.5 mm (US B-1 or C-2) hook. This flower is also the occasion to learn a new stitch: the half treble (htr). This stitch is right between the double crochet and the treble in height, and makes a beautiful transition between those stitches.
