Mele's $800 Savage/Stevens Build. My Stevens 200 Build. Started as this Then this, minus scope.

My Stevens 200 Build

It was my buddies. Then this, Burris 6.5-20x40 w/ MIL-dot reticule. Got bored with what it was, so went with this The scope matches the rest of the rifle, the paint was still tacky when I took the picture so it wasn't on there. I have a Rifle Basix SAV-1 trigger, Karsten adjustable cheek riser, and oversized bolt handle in the mail. Trashcan builds a rifle. Stevens 200. Tons of pics...... - PredatorMasters Forums. Lots of people say to do this next step in a plastic bag so you do not loose the detent ball under the extractor.

I just made sure I had it covered with my thumb while removing it and it worked out just fine.. Cover with thumb, lightly push out with punch and there ya go!! Headspacing was pretty straightforward. Insert Go-Gauge, close bolt, thread barrel down snug, tighten barrel nut, cycle bolt. Put a piece of tape on the end of Go-Gauge and try to cycle, if it don't go you are good. I did this quite a few times to make sure I got it right. Reassemble your bolt face/ extractor and bolt. Tighten everything down to spec and let's see if it explodes when we pull the trigger!!!! The barrel on this rifle was orginially a 6mm rem. and was shot by a avid F-Classer who said that he noticed X'Count was dropping and since he had over 1500 rounds down the tube, it should retire. I purchased this barrel for $70.00 and had It rebarreld by SSG and this barrel has just turned some heads around the local group and '08 match. BTW..not the prettiest.

My theme for this rifle is “Target Tactical” while also keeping to a budget. Many nights of research on the internet had pointed me towards a Stevens 200. If you have read Mel's article on his $800 budget sniper rifle, then you know about this rifle. Basically, it's a bare bones, entry-level Savage rifle. It includes a Savage model 10 action, old style Savage trigger, blued sporter type barrel and an injection molded plastic stock.

I've been considering buying a bolt rifle in .300 win mag, can't find what I'm after on savage's website (heavier barrel, no flash hider). I see a lot of Savage 110's in .300 win mag used on gunsamerica etc. in the $350 to $400 range. PawPaw April 16, 2012, 05:01 PM. View topic - New style Savage aftermarket stocks.
