Education World is pleased to offer 25 activities -- activities intended to help teachers make use of newspapers and to help students make sense of the news. Also included, at the end of the activity list, is a list of additional activities and Internet resources. This first activity won't make better or more interested news readers of your students -- but it was too interesting not to include in our list! You can even watch today's edition of Student News online if you miss it on TV. Each story is presented with clear information and also includes discussion topics for classrooms. KidsPost From the Washington Post, a news site just for kids. New York Times Learning Connections The New York Times Learning Network is a free service for students in grades 6-12, their teachers, and parents. PBS Newshour for Kids A "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer special for students. " Time for Kids Online This popular weekly news magazine is presented to many classrooms in the U.S. and their Web site has much more information.

Both series can be used in a variety of ways and can be applied to numerous subjects areas. The programs are updated on a weekly basis, with new episodes available on My DE every Wednesday afternoon. First, let’s talk about where to find Global Stories and Global Wrap on the site. After logging in to Discovery Education, you will be taken to your My DE page. In the upper right-hand corner of the My DE page, you will find a window titled Global News.

Global Stories:Global Stories offers a weekly showcase of the world’s top current events. In the Classroom:Accompanying each episode of Global Stories is a Teacher’s Guide, which provides two lesson ideas for each story, and a transcript.
