The activists – including anti-bedroom tax campaigners, political parties, anarchists and trade union members – brought traffic chaos to the city last night after marching through the streets and blockading the entrance to the Queensway tunnel. But police, who said around 300 people were involved, made no arrests and a force spokesman said this morning that no damage was caused during the demonstration. The protesters had gathered outside Liverpool town hall during the city council’s annual general meeting last night, before marching along Castle Street and James Street. They then held a sit-in protest on the Strand, bringing rush-hour traffic to a standstill. It was followed by a demonstration outside the Capital Building in Old Hall Street and the blockade at the entrance to the Queensway Tunnel – which left cars stranded underground.
