Pas de répression pour Hélène. REINSTATE THE UNION LEADERS AT THE SHERATON GRAND CONAKRY! Dear Ms. von Friedeburg & Mr.

REINSTATE THE UNION LEADERS AT THE SHERATON GRAND CONAKRY!

Trilok Bhunjun, On October 7, 2020, the General Secretary and the Deputy General Secretary of the IUF-affiliated hotel workers union at the Sheraton Grand Conakry in Guinea, IFC project #32408, were terminated by management in clear violation of the IFC’s Performance Standard 2 as well as ILO Conventions 87, 98 and 135. Despite the IUF’s 10 separate attempts at engagement with the IFC at the country level, the regional level, the sector level and the Environmental & Social level (Aug 28, Sep 1, Sep 2, Sep 3, Sep 9, Sep 18, Sep 25, Sep 30, Oct 5, Oct 8), this violation remains unresolved, and we request that you reinstate the two union leaders immediately.

The Sheraton Grand Conakry has until now been a good example of productive engagement between the IFC, the hotel owner, the hotel management and the union. The IUF was able to enter into a discussion around management’s refusal to grant the workers a union election and negotiated a fair process. Tell fast food CEOs: Listen to your workers, Black Lives Matter. It is not enough for fast food companies to pay lip service to the Black Lives Matter movement on social media.

Tell fast food CEOs: Listen to your workers, Black Lives Matter

You must take steps to ensure your Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) workers are protected against individual and systemic racial abuse. Why is this important? Muriel Pénicaud : Abandon des poursuites contre Anthony Smith. Dept. of Labor: Side with Workers over Big Tobacco. In 2019, dozens of union members employed by six Eastern NC farms stood up against corruption and labor rights abuses and sought negotiations for a union agreement.

Dept. of Labor: Side with Workers over Big Tobacco

In the midst of this campaign, the US Dept. of Labor began an investigation of the labor contractor, Salvador Barajas, interviewed a small number or workers, told all of the growers they had no need to worry, and closed out a case against the labor contractor in just a few days. Workers were told they would be paid before last November 15th. AFG: Reinstate UNISON rep Peter Moorhead and stop victimising trade unionists. AFG: Reverse your immoral decision to make UNISON Convenor Peter Moorhead redundant and stop victimising your employees who are members of trade unions.

AFG: Reinstate UNISON rep Peter Moorhead and stop victimising trade unionists

Why is this important? I'm Peter Moorhead, I have worked for social care provider AFG for over 20 years. In 2019, AFG care workers took strike action against our employer because we were not being paid the minimum wage for so-called "sleep in" shifts. As UNISON's convenor (lead representative) for AFG, I was involved in supporting our members in their fight for fair pay. AFG did not react positively to the strike action. Germany: Ameos fires workers and refuses collective bargaining

In the federal country of Sachsen-Anhalt in the east of Germany, for example nurses receive up to 500 EUR less than comparable employees in other hospitals. But Ameos refuses to sign a collective bargaining agreement with the union, ver.di. After massive short-term strike action in November Ameos has fired 14 workers without previous notice and has threatened 800 lay-offs should industrial action continue. Carlos Brito, CEO, AB InBev,Cc Mr. Ben Verhaert, President, AB InBev India Dear Mr. Brito, Soutien pour YASSINE. #FreeRioWijaya: Indonesian trade unionist jailed for union safety activities. On 20 August 2019, Rio Wijaya, a dedicated trade unionist from the Indonesian dockers' union Serikat Pekerja Jakarta International Container Terminal (SP JICT), was brutally attacked by security guards at Hutchison Port's terminal in Jakarta, and subsequently Rio was arrested and detained under false allegations of defaming and assaulting the security guards on 21 November 2019.

#FreeRioWijaya: Indonesian trade unionist jailed for union safety activities

Please join us in demanding that Hutchison Ports do everything within its powers to set the record straight and facilitate the immediate release of Brother Rio and that all charges levelled against him are dropped. The anti-union climate at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), the biggest container port operator in Indonesia, has caused unionists to fear for their rights and safety. Threats and intimidation targeting union activists at the terminal are serious and ongoing. Un syndicaliste indonésien emprisonné pour sa promotion de la sécurité au travail. Albania: Solidarity with the miners - end repression now. The Trade Union of United Mineworkers of Bulqiza (Albania) announced its formation on 17 November 2019.

Five days later, the chairman of the union was dismissed by AlbChrome, part of a very powerful corporation (Balfin) and the biggest mine company operating in the region. In response, the workers boycotted work demanding the reinstatement of their union leader and subsequently an end to worker repression, and higher wages. In the days that followed, other union leaders and activists were temporarily detained and interrogated by the police. On December 2, AlbChrome fired another member of the union executive committee. Under attacks from the employer and the police, as well as under a total media blackout, which has clearly sided with the richest man in Albania, the workers decided to close their strike with the promise by the local labour inspectorate that the issue of the dismissal of trade unionists will be taken up by them. Pologne : Réintégrez les dirigeants syndicaux licenciés par Castorama. Poland: Reinstate sacked union leaders at Castorama. UNI Commerce calls upon trade unions and workers worldwide to urge Castorama to re-instate 10 trade union activists in Poland.

Castorama is a brand of Kingfisher PLC, a British multinational home improvement company which employs 12,000 workers in 80 stores in Poland. NSZZ Solidarnosc Commerce, an affiliate of UNI Commerce, launched an organising campaign for Castorama workers. The employer intensified its union-busting activities since September 2018 and recently dismissed all 10 union leaders in Castorama Poland, including Wojciech Kasprzyk, the chairperson of Castorama Poland "Solidarity" Trade Union. The employer tried to justify dismissals on the grounds of "carrying out activities to the detriment of the company" and "damaging employer's image". However, they were simply using internet platforms and social media to help workers and get them organized. South Korea: Protecting safe rates for truck drivers. In South Korea, 1,000 people die annually due to truck crashes because big corporations like Samsung and Hyundai force low rates onto truck drivers forcing them to work long hours, overload their vehicles and speed, putting all road users at risk.

Korean truck drivers work over twice the annual average for OECD countries, but as 'owner drivers' they are entirely unprotected by labour law. After years of struggle, the KPTU Cargo Truckers Solidarity Division (KPTU-TruckSol) won historic Safe Rates legislation last year. Accordingly, a 'Road Freight Rates Safety Committee' was established to set fair safe rates and hold clients accountable. Recently an ILO Committee of Experts recognised the principles underpinning the Korean Safe Rates systems and others like it by adopting guidelines that outline the responsibilities of governments and transport chain parties and a sustainable payments model for owner drivers. Please support the fight for Safe Rates in South Korea and globally. Philippines : répression antisyndicale des enseignants. Philippines: Anti-union repression against teacher union. The Education International (EI) invites workers worldwide to condemn the intensification of the harassment and repression against its affiliate, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), in the Philippines.

Several ACT offices were raided by the police and at least one ACT provincial coordinator was arrested in a new crackdown against unions and civil society organisations in the country. The repression operations are ongoing and ACT fears that more of their members could be targeted. The union had to close offices to ensure the security of its staff, members and officers. The anti-union climate under the Duterte regime has caused unionists, teachers and academics to fear for their rights and safety.
