The conductorless orchestra, sometimes referred to as a self-conducted orchestra or unconducted orchestra, is an instrumental ensemble that functions as an orchestra but is not led or directed by a conductor.

Conductorless orchestra

Most conductorless orchestras are smaller in size, and generally perform chamber orchestra repertoire. Several conductorless orchestras are made up of only strings and focus primarily on string orchestra repertoire. Conductorless orchestras generally come from the classical music tradition and perform standard repertoire, but many conductorless orchestras promote or specialise in contemporary classical music repertoire. Many contemporary classical music ensembles also regularly perform without a conductor. History[edit] Early orchestras did not utilize a conductor, but instead the concertmaster or the continuo player, generally the harpsichordist led the orchestra. 1920s[edit] 1950s[edit] 1970s[edit]

Those acts are considered sub-conscious as most of the time the events cannot be recalled by the subject. It is most common when the subject has had under 10 hours sleep within a 36 hour period. Lustmord. Brian Williams is a Welsh industrial musician, sound designer and film score composer.

Lustmord

He is often credited for creating the dark ambient genre with albums recorded under the name Lustmord. Biography[edit] Williams released the album Heresy, considered a milestone of the genre of dark ambient,[8] in 1990. Williams contributed to 44 Hollywood film soundtracks as music and sound designer and occasionally as additional composer, most notably on The Crow and Underworld. Lustmord appeared live for the first time in 25 years as part of the high mass observance by the Church of Satan. Lustmord performed for the second time in 29 years at Unsound Festival Kraków on 22 October 2010.[12] Lustmord played for the first time in Moscow, Russia, on 8 April 2012, at Cinema 35mm. Personal life[edit] In early 1990s, Williams relocated to California from London with his wife Tracy, who is a recording studio manager.[1] He is an atheist.[1] Discography[edit] References[edit] External links[edit] Official website.

Vibration. Vibration is a mechanical phenomenon whereby oscillations occur about an equilibrium point.

Vibration

The oscillations may be periodic such as the motion of a pendulum or random such as the movement of a tire on a gravel road. More often, vibration is undesirable, wasting energy and creating unwanted sound – noise. For example, the vibrational motions of engines, electric motors, or any mechanical device in operation are typically unwanted. Such vibrations can be caused by imbalances in the rotating parts, uneven friction, the meshing of gear teeth, etc.

Careful designs usually minimize unwanted vibrations. The study of sound and vibration are closely related. Types of vibration[edit] Subwoofer. A 12" subwoofer driver without an enclosure Subwoofers are made up of one or more woofers mounted in a loudspeaker enclosure—often made of wood—capable of withstanding air pressure while resisting deformation.

Subwoofer enclosures come in a variety of designs, including bass reflex (with a port or passive radiator in the enclosure), infinite baffle, horn-loaded, and bandpass designs, representing unique tradeoffs with respect to efficiency, bandwidth, size and cost. Polybius by James Houston (@1030) - Dead media played as a musical instrument.

Scottish artist and filmmaker James Houston has been toying with the idea of recreating music using old computer hardware for some years now – much before the HP ad, utilising dead media as an instrument, picking out recognisable sounds these devices produce.

When these “instruments” come together, and if you were born in the 70s, there is an immense amount of familiarity, as if transported into the past but clearly located in the present, as the melodies linger the familiar tune. The latest production, titled Polybius features Julian Corrie who wrote and performs the piece, playing a guitar in a dry swimming pool, used as an input to control sounds produced by a SEGA Mega Drive, Commodore 64, floppy disk drives and hard drives. The once again unusual assemblage (controlled live via MIDI) is given a last curtain call in a nostalgic farewell to forgotten friends.

Looks Like Music - Yuri Suzuki (@yurisuzuki) at Mudam 2013. Back in 2008, for his Royal College of Art graduation show, Yuri Suzuki presented work which involved an innovative way of playing conventional vinyl records, including a miniature electric circuit constructed from pieces of old records on which small cars circulate and transmit sound.

This miniature vehicle incorporates miniature sensor that detects and follows a black line whilst it reads crossing coloured lines and translates them as RGB data into sound. Users could draw a randomly shaped circuit using a black marker pen on a piece of paper and the colour chaser followed the line. In 2010, the project took shape and presented as “Colour Chaser”, beautifully designed but minimal vehicles in the shape of a box with an on/off button and the speaker located at the top.
