Surviving Remote Teaching during COVID-19 – Donna Tatum-Johns

The shift to teaching remotely had pushed and stretched me as an educator in ways that I honestly could have never foreseen. The learning curve has been steep as I have shifted not only my lessons but also the way I engage my students in the target language. Looking at the camera on my computer instead of my students’ eyes has been both mentally exhausting and a bit sad. I so miss being with my students. First and foremost, I decided to give myself permission to fail. BD et confinement - découvrez une sélection d'albums gratuits — Éditions Le Lombard. Round robin reading (RRR) has been a classroom staple for over 200 years and an activity that over half of K–8 teachers report using in one of its many forms, such as popcorn reading.

11 Alternatives to Round Robin (and Popcorn) Reading

RRR’s popularity endures despite the evidence that the practice is ineffective for its stated purpose: enhancing fluency, word decoding, and comprehension. Cecile Somme makes a good point in Popcorn Reading: The Need to Encourage Reflective Practice: “Popcorn reading is one of the sure-fire ways to get kids who are already hesitant about reading to really hate reading.” Facts About Round Robin Reading In RRR, students read orally from a common text, one child after another, while the other students follow along in their copies of the text.

Several variations on the technique offer negligible advantages over RRR, if any. Command Performance Language Institute – CPLI Bookstore. Leveled novels for language classes. Introducing "Khadra", the second installment of the "Alice" series – TOWARD PROFICIENCY

I was humbled to hear many students had connected with Alice and her friends Bilal, Khadra, and Camille. I decided to write a sequel, but perhaps not the one you were expecting… I am thrilled to introduce my second novel: Khadra! Synopsis “Khadra is trying to deal with her recent falling out with her best friend, Alice. As she reflects on Alice’s betrayal, she makes an unlikely new friend and finds unexpected purpose in helping him survive a dangerous situation. The novel has 4,000 words, 300 headwords, and a lot of words similar to English. As with Alice, the language is simplified but rich and natural. For those of you who want to supplement this story, there is a cultural glossary at the end of the book and a YouTube playlist with useful videos, appropriate for Intermediate students.

For the past three years I have tried to get as many students as possible to read TPRS novels. For the past two years I started building the SSR/FVR program and this year I couldn't be happier with the way it's going. I have also just started presenting on building such a program and my first session was at the Comprehensible Midwest CI Conference in Wisconsin, on September 30th, 2017.

I would like to first outline the things that I do that help my program be successful and hopefully will inspire and make it easier on other teachers to implement it if they haven't already. So, what is it that we need in order to make sure students are reading and are accountable for what they do without making it a chore, an assignment, or another dreaded activity? ***Updated 8/23 – I adjusted some titles and began to think about leveling in my specific context. Titles that have numerous images will be in levels A and B. In some of those titles the Latin might be at a higher level, but if the pictures tell the story well, for my context, I find those books to be great stretch reads for Novice level students who want a challenge. This might not be the best for every context. My leveling system is also based on observations of my students in my context. You might disagree with where I put things. Also, there may be titles with less pictures in the level C and D range that seem easier.

Caras Vemos, Corazones No Sabemos: A New and Compelling Novel From The Creative Mind of Theresa Jensen - Novels & Resources by A.C. Quintero. The world of reading in the target language just got bigger, adding more intriguing layers with the new novel, Caras Vemos, from Theresa Jensen. Over the summer, we saw a record number of teachers, picking up the pen with the goal of enriching our literary experiences, and upping the acquisition factor. Some of the books featured this summer were La última prueba by Jennifer Degenhardt, La ofrenda de Sofía by Theresa Marrama, Alice, La liste by Cecile Laine, and El mensaje by A.C. Quintero. Jensen added to this working body of student-friendly literature with the highly anticipated, Caras vemos (corazones no sabemos). In this post, you will get to know Theresa, what compels her to write, and why you should get her new book!
