I have them all (except those that break the laws of man or physics). This is the photographic periodic table poster I sell: My poster and related imagery can be seen in several TV shows, and most recently staff at the venerable NOVA science series emailed asking for permission to use my poster image in an upcoming show about metals. They wanted to pan and zoom over it, starting wide and then focusing down onto a few individual elements. I said, “Fine, but I have something I think you’ll like even better…. Exclusive: The Making of The Elements, One of the iPad's Most Magical Apps. Every once in a while things just come together to make you realize that you'd be an idiot not to put yourself through hell in pursuit of an impossible goal.

Exclusive: The Making of The Elements, One of the iPad's Most Magical Apps

That day arrived for me on January 27th when Steve Jobs announced that the iPad would be shipping 60 days hence. After some deep soul searching for about 60 seconds, I decided that I had the chance to create something quite remarkable, and just maybe do it better and faster than anyone else in the world. More specifically that I had a chance to take my recently published book, The Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe, and turn it into a book that Harry Potter might check out of the Hogwarts library.

I wanted to make Harry Potter's magic books a reality, and do it in 60 days flat. Here's how we pulled it off. Electronic publishing, including books, magazines, and newspapers, was a big part of the announcement of the iPad. My goal was 100% magic, and I think we got up to about 98%. Ammolite. Ammolite, is an opal-like organic gemstone found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America.

Ammolite

It is made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn are composed primarily of aragonite, the same mineral that makes up nacreous pearls. It is one of few biogenic gemstones; others include amber and pearl.1 In 1981, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO), the same year commercial mining of ammolite began. It was designated the official gemstone of the City of Lethbridge in 2007.[2][3] Introduction. Crystals Grown During This Experiment. Rochelle Salt crystals, which have orthorhombic crystalline structure, grew well under either method.

Common Chemicals and Where to Find ThemThis is a list of common chemicals and where you can find them. Crystal structure. In mineralogy and crystallography, a crystal structure is a unique arrangement of atoms or molecules in a crystalline liquid or solid.[1] A crystal structure describes a highly ordered structure, occurring due to the intrinsic nature of molecules to form symmetric patterns.

Crystal structure

A crystal structure can be thought of as an infinitely repeating array of 3D 'boxes', known as unit-cells. The unit cell is calculated from the simplest possible representation of molecules, known as the asymmetric unit. The asymmetric unit is translated to the unit cell through symmetry operations, and the resultant crystal lattice is constructed through repetition of the unit cell infinitely in 3-dimensions. ITLI Corporation. Copyright Development in Brazil. Even though the 1830 Brazilian Criminal Code – enforced eight years after the country became independent from Portugal – foresaw the crime of copyright infringement , the first Brazilian law specifically aimed at authorial protection was the 1898 Law no. 496, also referred as Medeiros e Albuquerque Law, in honor of its author.

Until the advent of that law, in Brazil, intellectual work was a no man’s land. So much so that Pinheiro Chagas, a Portuguese writer, used to complain about having a “customary thief” who also had the audacity to write him saying: “Everything published by Your Excellency is wonderful! I do what I can for you to become known in Brazil by reprinting it all!” At that time, it was common to think that foreign works, even more than the national ones, could be indiscriminately copied . Verneuil process. History[edit] A sketch of an early furnace used by Verneuil to synthesise rubies using the Verneuil process. Since the time of the alchemists, there have been attempts to synthetically produce precious stones, and ruby, being one of the five highly prized cardinal gems, has long been a prime candidate for synthesis. Auguste Victor Louis Verneuil.

Auguste Verneuil A sketch of an early furnace used by Verneuil to synthesise rubies using the Verneuil process. Auguste Victor Louis Verneuil (French: [vɛʁnœj]; 3 November 1856 – 27 April 1913) was a French chemist best known for inventing the first commercially viable process for the manufacture of synthetic gemstones. In 1902 he discovered the "flame fusion" process, today called the Verneuil process, which remains in use today as an inexpensive means of making artificial corundum, or rubies. Biography[edit] Verneuil was born in Dunkirk, France, in 1856.
