How different scientific domains define trust, see The Science of Trust John Clippinger [1] reviews the science confirming we are beings of trust: “ These good acts give pleasure, but how it happens that they give us pleasure? -Thomas Jefferson, 1814 "What makes the discussion of trust today different than in any other time in history, is that that it has become the object of scientific investigation and technological innovation. Underlying all political theories are certain “folk” assumptions about human nature.
But Science has weighed in on this debate and it seems that Jefferson was right. According to evolutionary psychologists and biologists, the human brain evolved many highly sophisticated social exchange algorithms for interpreting, signaling, and coordinating human interactions. Using detailed transaction data from a leading P2P barter marketplace for books, we examine how the norm of reciprocity affects transaction outcomes. We find that although the barter marketplace is designed under the norm of indirect reciprocity, market participants also exhibit a strong preference towards direct reciprocity. Recommneded Citation. Introduction: Mass Customization and Mass Confusion In Toffler's book "The Third Wave," Robert H. In the mass customization concept, goods and services are produced to meet individual customers' needs with near mass production efficiency (Tseng & Jiao, 2001).
