100GB Blu-ray discs coming soon ... to Japan

Pah! Sharp and TDK have announced that they plan of releasing 100GB BDXL Blu-ray discs. The Blu-ray Disc Association finalized the new BDXL specification in June, and it's not taken manufacturers long to start making discs. Sharp announced plans to release 100GB discs in Japan at the end of July, while TDK's offerings will hit shelves early September.

The BDXL standard offers 33.4GB per layer of storage on four layers (compared to the 25GB per layer on a maximum of two layers for the current standard), although it seems that no one is currently going for 4 layer discs, instead being content with making use of three layers. The bad news - while BDXL players are backward compatible with Blu-ray, older players won't work. Greenland glacier hits record speeds. The Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event that occurred about 65 million years ago did not result in the minimization of the size of all the creatures on Earth that survived the catastrophic event according to new research conducted by Caroline Sogot from University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and colleagues that was presented in the Feb. 5, 2014, edition of the journal Public Library of Science.

The researchers examined the fossil remains of 59 different species of bryzoan and found no change in the size of the individuals that make up the colony of these moss animals (ectoprocts). Seventy-five percent of the bryzoan species studied lived through the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. Meat-eating Aichi plant new species. Physicist proposes method to teleport energy. (PhysOrg.com) -- Using the same quantum principles that enable the teleportation of information, a new proposal shows how it may be possible to teleport energy.

Physicist proposes method to teleport energy

By exploiting the quantum energy fluctuations in entangled particles, physicists may be able to inject energy in one particle, and extract it in another particle located light-years away. The proposal could lead to new developments in energy distribution, as well as a better understanding of the relationship between quantum information and quantum energy. Japanese physicist Masahiro Hotta of Tohoku University has explained the energy teleportation scheme in a recent study posted at arxiv.org, called “Energy-Entanglement Relation for Quantum Energy Teleportation.”

Previously, physicists have demonstrated how to teleport the quantum states of several different entities, including photons, atoms, and ions. In quantum energy teleportation, a physicist first makes a measurement on each of two entangled particles. Myexploration. Chemistry. Virtual world. The user accesses a computer-simulated world which presents perceptual stimuli to the user, who in turn can manipulate elements of the modeled world and thus experience a degree of telepresence.[6] Such modeled worlds and their rules may draw from the reality or fantasy worlds.

Virtual world

Example rules are gravity, topography, locomotion, real-time actions, and communication. Communication between users can range from text, graphical icons, visual gesture, sound, and rarely, forms using touch, voice command, and balance senses. Virtual worlds are not limited to games but, depending on the degree of immediacy presented, can encompass computer conferencing and text based chatrooms. Quantum mechanics

Quantum mechanics cannot predict the exact location of a particle in space, only the probability of finding it at different locations.[1] The brighter areas represent a higher probability of finding the electron. Quantum mechanics (QM; also known as quantum physics, quantum theory, the wave mechanical model, or matrix mechanics), including quantum field theory, is a fundamental theory in physics which describes nature at the smallest scales of atoms and subatomic particles.[2] Quantum mechanics gradually arose from theories to explain observations which could not be reconciled with classical physics, such as Max Planck's solution in 1900 to the black-body radiation problem, and from the correspondence between energy and frequency in Albert Einstein's 1905 paper which explained the photoelectric effect.

Using a variety of highly refined reflected optical microscopy techniques, we have developed a large collection of full-color photomicrographs (photographs taken through a microscope) illustrating the intricate and surprising patterns observed on integrated circuit surfaces. For decades, semiconductors have been doubling in power every 18 months or so, according to Moore’s Law, a rule of thumb coined by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore. Intel was long the innovation leader in the $200+ billion semiconductor industry, but is facing tough competition from the 64-bit architecture of Advanced Micro Devices. The latest chips have a clock speed greater than 4 gigahertz and are packed with more than 100 million transistors, each circuit occupying just 90 nanometers (billionths of a meter) of silicon real estate.
