Sitting is killing you! An #infographic to promote exercise

Are you sitting down? Statistically speaking, you probably are. But that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Minding the Planet

(DRAFT 7. Work-In-Progress) What is the universe and where does it come from? There are two major schools of thought on this question:
http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20927962.000-the-economic-jungle-how-ecologists-could-save-banking.html THE world's financial system really is like a jungle - a realisation that may save it from disaster. An ecological theorist and the Bank of England's head of stability have teamed up to show that if you apply the mathematical models used in ecology to financial systems, they behave much like ecosystems - with similar risks of collapse. Worryingly, the models bankers now use maximise exactly those risks. Until the 1970s, ecologists believed that the more complex the ecosystem, the more stable: lose one species and the rest fill in. Then Robert May , now at the University of Oxford, and others showed that such complex systems have critical points at which a change in one species can have dramatic and non-linear effects on others.

Speed Camera Lottery Could Save Lives and Fuel!

Photo: Youtube Let's Hope it Won't Stay Just a Commercial (See Video Below) German car maker Volkswagen has produced a series of ads based on "fun theory", the simple idea that if something is fun or if there's something in it for you, you are more likely to do it than if you're just "supposed to". It's pretty simply psychology, yet if we look at everything we're supposed to do, that fact is very rarely taken into account by authorities. One of the ads is about a special speed camera (see the video below): Like a regular speed camera, it can fine drivers who go over the speed limit, but there's also a carrot to go with that stick. If you follow the speed limit, you are entered into a lottery with cash prizes! This is not only good law enforcement, but I also think there's a big green angle... http://www.treehugger.com/cars/speed-camera-lottery-could-save-lives-and-fuel.html
Music lovers can now be immortalised when they die by having their ashes baked into vinyl records to leave behind for loved ones. A UK company called And Vinyly is offering people the chance to press their ashes in a vinyl recording of their own voice, their favourite tunes or their last will and testament. Minimalist audiophiles might want to go for the simple option of having no tunes or voiceover, and simply pressing the ashes into the vinyl to result in pops and crackles. The company was founded by Jason Leach, who co-founded the techno group and record label Subhead in the 1990s and has since founded a number of other labels, including House of Fix, Daftwerk and Death to Vinyl. Leach explained to Wired.co.uk that there were a number of factors that made him launch the service, including thinking that he was "getting a bit old" and "might not be invincible".

Product Ecologies

see also: GVCS Pattern Language Product Ecologies illustrate how the different tools of the GVCS work together. For example, motors, power units, and implements interchange within the tractor, microtractor, car, truck, fabrication, and bulldozer infrastructures. Ecologies can also refer to the way in which a set of tools can be put together to produce a wide array of products - such as the induction furnace contributing to the production of tractor parts, construction roofing, or wire.
