Even today, intricate nut sculptures like those made in Suzhou, Yangzhou, Weifang in Shandong and Guangdong Province are famous for their level of detail and unique characteristics. Often referred to as “an uncanny work of art “, fruit pit carving requires a series of skills and tools in order to produce a fine piece of art.

Spanish designer Maximo Riera likes to design chairs that exhibit animal forms. The designer’s Rhino Chair, Walrus Chair and Octopus Chair, part of the Animal Chair collection, are equally interesting mainly because of the unexpected nature (no pun intended) of the chairs’ forms. The series of three sculptural furniture pieces retain the vitality of the animals which they represent – Riera ensured the animals’ biology and appearances were as realistic as possible. Reira is currently working on additional pieces for his Animal Chair collection. Máximo Riera has been a practicing artist for over thirty years.
