The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay

The novel follows the lives of two Jewish cousins before, during, and after World War II. They are a Czech artist named Joe Kavalier and a Brooklyn-born writer named Sam Clay. In the novel, Kavalier and Clay become major figures in the comics industry from its nascency into its "Golden Age. " Kavalier & Clay was published to "nearly unanimous praise" and became a New York Times Best Seller,[1] receiving nominations for the 2000 National Book Critics Circle Award and PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

In 2006, Bret Easton Ellis declared the novel "one of the three great books of my generation",[2] and in 2007, The New York Review of Books called the novel Chabon's magnum opus.[3] A film adaptation, to be directed by Stephen Daldry and produced by Scott Rudin, began pre-production in 2001. David T sent in a big pile of goodies recently and I think my favourite of all is this cool pic of Captain America shaking hands at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson NJ in 1976. That shield is awesome.. Matt submitted these cool black and white shots of Captain America and the Hulk at the opening of the Bangor Mall (in Maine, of course) circa 1978. He also believes he has shots of Spider-Man and Darth Vader from the same event, stay tuned. Lynch sent me this great promo photo of a Hulk appearance from 1978, awesome. Here's my pal Jason Lenzi from Bif Bang Pow! Kelly sent in this great shot from 1979, adorable. Robbie also sent in this great late 70s Monkey Wards appearance of him and Spidey. Another great shot from David, here he and his brother meet Batman and Wonder Woman at the Toys & More store at the Walden Galleria in suburban Buffalo. .

This one again focusses on horror, but rather than the magazines this time we’ll have a look at some colour comics. We’ll stay with the Lord of the Undead for now, prise open the Tomb of Dracula, and see that he started his long Marvel career with this slight variation of the theme: The Tomb of Dracula #1, April 1972 That one was drawn by the inimitable Neal Adams, although I don’t think his style is immediately obvious. In October 1974 Marvel UK launched a weekly reprint title, but they held over Adams’s cover until the fourth issue. Dracula Lives #4, October 1974 I don’t really remember much about Dracula Lives.

Gil Kane was Marvel’s de facto cover artist for much of the early 1970s, and here we see his take on the Prince of Darkness: The Tomb of Dracula #14, November 1973 Frank Giacoia’s lush inks soften some of Kane’s idiosyncrasies, but it’s a nice image. Finally, here’s another Kane effort. Comic Books - Collecting Comic Books, News, Reviews and More. Enter The Story, and comics.
