Tsuneaki Hiramatsu knew something was up. It was the end of December and his amateur photo blog had suddenly jumped from a handful of visitors a day to thousands. The telephone customer service agent and hobby photographer was surprised. “I was like, what happened?!” says the 35-year-old Hiramatsu, who lives in Okayama City, Japan. What happened was that Hiramatsu’s long exposure and time-lapse photos of Japanese fireflies had started to go viral.
Using multiple layers of clear glass, Canada based David Spriggs and Chinese born Xia Xiaowan , transform flat artwork into 3D sculptures. Viewers are treated to different shifting perspectives of the works based on where they stand in the art space. Spriggs work revolves around powerful explosive imagery, often resembling storms, cosmic blasts or firework like explosions. Xiawan’s “spatial paintings,” which often feature distorted figures, are drawn individually using colored pencil on tinted glass. His solo exhibition ' Dystopia ' took place at the INSA/Arko Art Centre in Seoul from 26 October 2011 until 31 October 2011 and showed his nude sculptures made meticulously in welded metal chain links piece by piece. Seo Young Deok presented a number of nude sculptures, some lying on the ground, some hung on the walls.
