At least that is what I eat during the week so by the time the weekend rolls around the last thing I want for breakfast is another egg sandwich. I decided several weekends ago (I know I have been MIA, but I’m back now and that’s what matters right?) To do something different with eggs.

Banana Split Mini Bites For once I made something mini for portion control and not just for the cute factor. My little guy had some friends over the other day and of course with a mom who is a baker, the expectation is dessert will not only be good but it will be fun. And I was asked, by friend Caroline, not to let her boys eat too much dessert. Keeping all things in mind what I served is what you see here. Here’s what wasn’t a hit and what I learned. After her kids were grown and starting to have kids of their own my Mom started the tradition of having everyone over for breakfast Christmas morning. She would make Monkey Bread and have it on the table for everyone to snack on while she whipped up eggs and bacon and pancakes.

The sweet little puffy balls coated with cinnamon and sugar would disappear one at a time until before you knew it nothing was left. I was a pretty picky eater growing up and I didn’t love Mom’s Monkey Bread because she always added nuts to it. I’m still not crazy about nuts in baked goods, but I love Monkey Bread. It’s like getting just the best part of a cinnamon roll, the ooey, gooey middle in every bite. (Monkey Bread is also known as Bubble Bread or Pull Apart Bread.) So this year in memory of my Mom I decided it was time to serve Monkey Bread on Christmas morning. As a bonus, this recipe is frozen back in the watermelon rind and cut off into slices. It’s hot. The type of heat where when you step outside the door and your skin is wet before the door swings shut behind you. It’s a hot that hangs in the air, letting you breathe it in, that is cured only by two things: being completely immersed in water or hiding indoors, the air conditioning cranked as far as it will go.I find that the heat makes me very unmotivated to do things like take a walk, water and weed the garden (though I have forced that one on myself) and prepare food and eat it.

However, when the promise of cooking provides ice cold watermelon sorbet, I just may be convinced. When your simple syrup is cool and watermelon chunked, blend them together in a food processor or blender until smooth. Cool the liquid completely in the refrigerator for a few hours. This then goes into the freezer. Truly, nothing. Fun Saving Money: State Fair Funnel Cake Recipe. A brownie by any other name… Love brownies. The test kitchen bakers loved Ana.

Ana still visits occasionally, 2-year-olds in tow. And when she does, she’ll invariably nose out any chocolate, and treat us to her classic reaction: “Perfect! These cookies are basically brownies: flat, round, 2 ½” brownies. First task: Combine the chocolate and butter. Melt in the microwave till softened… …then stir till smooth. A big thank you goes out to Cupcakes Take The Cake , where Rachel linked to my latest cupcake creation on Flickr, banana coconut cupcakes with creme fraiche frosting and coconut caramel sauce. I thought I’d better get the recipe for these awesome cupcakes on my blog so that all the visitors from CTTC can make these for themselves. First of all, let me say that I’ve been planning these cupcakes for weeks. It all started when I made the coconut pancakes with bananas, creme fraiche and caramel sauce last month, which was a recipe from Valli Little in delicious. magazine. I loved those pancakes. The combination of those flavors was like nothing else my tastebuds have ever experienced (probably mostly because I had never eaten creme fraiche!). I started thinking that this flavor combination would taste great as a cupcake as well, and I haven’t made cupcakes in ages ! Over the past week I finally made up my mind as to how I would make these cupcakes. The assembly was easy.

This delicious, cheesy, ooey gooey lasagna is so yummy! It may sound weird, but with fresh, summery zucchini, plenty of bacon, three types of cheese, and a little pinch of nutmeg, it’s just bursting with flavor. It’s fun to make and super impressive because you get to toss around phrases like “fontina cheese”, “freshly grated nutmeg” and “Oh, I’m just whipping up a béchamel sauce!” Give it a try… you won’t be disappointed!

:) What better place to start than with bacon! While the bacon is baking, let’s prepare the zucchini. Toss zucchini in olive oil, just enough to coat, add 1-2 cloves minced garlic, and plenty of kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. Roast zucchini in an 8×8 baking dish at 400 degrees for 15 mins… You don’t need to spray it, there’s plenty of oil to keep it from sticking. You’ll also need 3 ounces of shredded fontina cheese.

Now for the good stuff. You’ll need just a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg… delicious! Pour the béchamel sauce into the bottom an 8×8 dish. Aww. The Pastry Affair - Home - Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart&Bread. I once made the driest pancake in the world. I can see you sitting at home, staring at your computer screen, and scoffing at my bold statement. Driest pancake in the world? Yeah, right. How would you even know? But this is the truth, my friends. Let me share my story with you. A few years back, I made chocolate chip pancakes. Quickly flash to the next morning. Still cold. Confusion. Was the microwave broken? I got angry, as one will when they want food and want it now.

When I took it out, the pancake was slightly less cool. It took me a few hours to realize what had happened. It only stands to reason that my pancake was so utterly dry that there wasn't enough water in it to be absorbed by the microwaves. Thus, the world's driest pancake was born. And to think I took a bite... Luckily, this Garlic Parmesan Pull-Apart Bread is definitely not dry.

San francisco garlic fries | The Red Spoon. Well folks, not much going on this week. I’m still 800 million degrees, which I guess is normal if you’re a human incubator. I’ve become a stretchy, elastic waisted pants spokesperson, because ohmygah maternity jeans are the most incredible thing I have ever worn, excepting for the sweat pants I model almost daily. (Seriously, they need to make jeans this comfortable for non-knocked up folks.) The weather has suddenly de-humidified itself and is now safe for this 800 million degree gal to go outside and actually enjoy it. Ummm, uhhhhh. Thankfully the flour explosion that played out in my mind was not needed as a few huffs and puffs calmed the fire and eventually put it out.

The bad: I am now squeamish around my oven. Glad that is over. One Year Ago: Thyme and Gruyere Crackers San Francisco Garlic Fries Adapted from Bon Appetit, August 2011 Serves 4 So, I really like this version more than the previous baked fry I auditioned.
