Polargraph / Drawbot Pen Holder  I have been playing with Drawing robots / Polargraphs for a few months now, first inspired by my friend Matt Venn’s Energy Monitor: and later Sandy Noble’s Polargraph: Like many projects, I have ended up making many revisions / versions of my drawbots.

Plastic Chain (0.1227") Sold in pre-cut 1 foot sections Unique snap-lock chain link design allows any pitch length to be fabricated in a matter of seconds without splicing, master links, or special tools.

Plastic Chain (0.1227")

Sold in pre-cut 1 foot sections. Compatible with ourplain bore sprockets. Shown with our aluminum channel and other components. Plastic Chain. Sold in 1 foot sections (48 links) 1/4” Pitch1/8” Roller Width0.130” Roller Diameter This chain works well with our aluminum hub sprockets.

Servo Sprockets (.1227)

Finally a way to drive chain using servos! Our patented servo sprockets are designed to attach directly to the output spline of a servo. Servo Sprockets & Chain. Servo Arms & Horns. Skift Design is making an installation for the Technoport conference in Trondheim, and as a part of that they wanted a drawbot.

Drawing Machine – part 2

They contacted Omega Workshop at NTNU, and got in contact with me and Gunnar who was actually making one already! You can see the Wishing Well they created for Technoport in this movie. But anyways, let’s continue were we ended in the last post, but first, a movie: What needs to be done to make a presentable machine? The creation presented in part 1 wasn’t really non-hacker friendly, with all the gaffer tape and soda bottles. Circuitbend Sega Megadrive2 with a magnetic patch-bay.. (the end of the wires ha... Neko. Robots tend to fall in three categories: arms, rovers and androids.

Since painting is a sedentary act requiring grace and precision, and I'm more interested in exploring the robotic experience than simulating the human experience, an arm-type robot is the obvious choice. This arm has twice the dexterity of Nila, my first oil painting arm, and a more ambitious goal of lifelike representation with sound color theory. I have a ten-step lesson/development plan: Grabbing the brush Dipping the brush in paint Applying lines Blending color Grayscale representation Color blocking Diluted layers Sculptural strokes Color representation of still image Color representation of image over time This is a pretty standard human trajectory, a synthesis of my own formal lessons and private study, divied suitably for a robot.

Plotter. I set out to built a plotter that could draw vector images of the Gutenberg 42-Line Bible, in honor of Marshall McLuhan's 100th birthday.

I include this project here to highlight another machine: a MakerBot Thing-O-Matic named Nimrod. That's a 3D printer, which I will let Bre Pettis explain. Nimrod allows me to print things I can't purchase anywhere, like a part that connects a given motor to two rods. This is useful in the world of electromechanics, where components are highly variable, and costly to replace. There is a steep learning curve to 3D printing and many frustrations, but it's exactly the technology I needed to take the next step in my work. My favorite thing about this XY Plotter prototype is how the colors of plastic hold its history. Servo to Shaft Couplers. Features• Handles over 1,500 oz-in. of torque without slipping• 6061 T6 Aluminum• Fits right onto servo spline• Offered in both Hitec (24T spline) & Futaba (25T spline) Special micro head screws allow even the smallest of bores to be bolted to the servo.

Servo to Shaft Couplers

Now it is easier than ever to attach a shaft inline to your servo with our new Servo Shaft Couplers. Machined from ultra strong 6061 T6 aluminum ensures years of reliable use. Two special micro head screws for both nylon gear and metal gear servos are included so that even the smaller bores can be bolted to your servo (standard servo screw heads are too large for the smaller bores).

We currently offer them for Hitec and Futaba standard size splines.
