And while the finished rug has had a home in our playroom for a while, now I can give it the pattern a home here on Moogly! I hope you enjoy this great free crochet rug pattern! This pattern features Red Heart Vivid, an amazingly bright and bold yarn that’s crazy squishy! It’s a super bulky, and since I made this rug I’ve seen it at local big box yarn stores. If you can’t find it at a store near you, you can order it online from Red Heart, or substitute the super bulky yarn of your choice – or even hold 2-3 strands of worsted together! In the four months we’ve had the Shocking Mandala Rug in our playroom it’s been the scene of epic Lego battles, a private tent, a turtle shell, and a safe warm place to land.

This is the first pattern I've written, so bear with me and please let me know if you find any errors or if any of the directions are confusing. Crocheted Toy Cocoon Bags Materials: Any bulky weight yarn. Or you can crochet multiple strands of a smaller weight yarn. For mine I used Lily Sugar 'n Cream Worsted/Medium Weight Cotton (in Soft Ecru) but crochet three strands at once to get the bulk I wanted. Make a braided t-shirt rug. Select a few old t-shirts from your closet, a thrift store, or your Aunt Marcy's NASCAR t-shirt collection. I used 5.5 t-shirts to make a rug that is approximately 18" in diameter, but if you have more time and patience than I do or if you want a bigger rug, you could use more shirts.

Next step is to prepare the t-shirts by cutting them and turn them into yarn. I used a method that I found on YouTube but I took some photos of this step for here. You will want to flatten the shirt out in front of you, but face it sideways so that one sleeve points toward you and the other points away from you. Next, measure out every 2 inches from the bottom seam of the shirt (which is on the left or right side now), all the way to under the sleeves of the shirt.
