In analog photography, toning is a chemical process carried out on silver-based photographic prints. This darkroom process can not be done with a color photograph. Chemical toning[edit] Most toners work by replacing the metallic silver in the emulsion with a silver compound, such as silver sulfide (Ag2S) in the case of sepia toning. Toner also can increase the range of shades visible in a print without reducing the contrast. Selenium toning[edit] Selenium toning is a popular archival toning process, converting metallic silver to silver selenide.
Selenium toning may not produce prints quite as stable as sepia or gold toning. In most applications, selenium toning was not used for its sepia or red tone by fine art photographers. Artists. This two week summer course was designed to prepare the photographer for breaking into the world of fashion photography and, as well as providing a sound introduction to the processes involved in finding work in this industry. Naturally it provided some practical photography shooting experience and the location shooting exercise, was perhaps the area where I learned the most lessons.
