Return to The Giza Power Plant - Christopher Dunn

Civilizations such as ours can rise to great heights and be dashed onto a path of devolution by natural or engineered effects. In a blink of an eye, we can lose it all! Whether as one or multiple blinks of an eye, our distant ancestors in prehistoric Egypt received a mortal blow to the industry that was capable of creating the artifacts we see there today. http://www.gizapower.com/Articles/return.html

Archaeological Haecceities

In my search for a concept of time for archaeological purposes that is compatible with Harman’s object-oriented philosophy I have now returned to an old blog post of mine. The old blog post is based on my licentiate thesis which was written during my “pre-Bergsonian” period. I have earlier described the way Husserl’s model of time consciousness can be reworked to fit the archaeological record.
http://www.thenagain.info/webchron/westeurope/Ancient.html While the peoples of the Mediterranean Basin developed sophisticated urban societies, the peoples of Western Europe were agriculturalists throughout the Ancient Period. However, warfare, trade and migration brought Western Europe and the Mediterranean Basin together. The Romans incorporated much of Western Europe into its empire and from this a new society developed that included elements of Greco-Roman, Christian and Germanic culture.

Cultural Anthropology: Theories Theories are like "big-picture" roadmaps, that are meant to orient us in the midst of a lot of facts, ideas, beliefs, opinions etc., to make general sense out of them.

It is not intended to be--and should not be used as--a source of modern, up-to-date information regarding atheistic issues. Please read the full Historical Library Disclaimer A MONG those masses of cathedral sculpture which preserve so much of medieval theology, one frequently recurring group is noteworthy for its presentment of a time-honored doctrine regarding the origin of the universe.
http://www.matrixmasters.com/world/america/afghanistan/warafghanistan%20home.html The hard-line Islamic Taliban that appeared down and out has returned, taking control of large swaths of countryside. Widespread poverty has smoothed its way, shaking what little confidence Afghans have in their democratically elected government. . . . More than 3,000 people have been killed in rising violence this year. Suicide bombers are targeting ordinary Afghans and Western troops. Militants are assassinating key political figures, burning down schools and using roadside bombs to deadly effect. . . .

History Hunters International « Studying cultural layers

As well as practising field archaeology, we are students of history and publish new articles here regularly. Our focus is on the appearance of divine men in Classical Antiquity and our approach is archaeological. The earliest New Testament codex says that the disciples were called Chrestians first at Antioch - and then it was changed to read 'Christians', which has a very different meaning. http://historyhuntersinternational.org/
The belligerents during World War II fought as partners in one of two major alliances: the Axis and the Allies. The three principal partners in the Axis alliance were Germany, Italy, and Japan. These three countries recognized German hegemony over most of continental Europe; Italian hegemony over the Mediterranean Sea; and Japanese hegemony over East Asia and the Pacific. Although the Axis partners never developed institutions to coordinate foreign or military policy as the Allies did, the Axis partners had two common interests: 1) territorial expansion and foundation of empires based on military conquest and the overthrow of the post-World War I international order; and 2) the destruction or neutralization of Soviet Communism. On November 1, 1936, Germany and Italy, reflecting their common interest in destabilizing the European order, announced a Rome-Berlin Axis one week after signing a treaty of friendship.

From the early 16th century onwards, European settlers arriving in the Americas brought not only ideas about religious and political freedom, but also the skills needed to build communities, the ways of daily life in the Old World. The technologies in particular differed little if at all from those their medieval forebears used to construct European civilization after the fall of Rome. The colonial American environment in which these technologies were applied led to a reorganization of industry and society outside the aristocratic control of Europe and provided the basis for the political developments that made a new nation. This website explores some of the core medieval technologies that built the American colonies into an industrial powerhouse: milling and iron manufacture.

Thus, in a paper of the nature of this thesis, the Beowulfian novice is limited in scope and must be satisfied, at best, to open a small breach in the subject, examine one segment, focus his attention on one aspect, single out one featture of it, and channel the efforts of his research towards some contribution, no matter how small, to the over- all scholarship in the field.
The Celts were a group of peoples that occupied lands stretching from the British Isles to Gallatia. The Celts had many dealings with other cultures that bordered the lands occupied by these peoples, and even though there is no written record of the Celts stemming from their own documents, we can piece together a fair picture of them from archeological evidence as well as historical accounts from other cultures. The first historical recorded encounter of a people displaying the cultural traits associated with the Celts comes from northern Italy around 400 BC, when a previously unkown group of barbarians came down from the Alps and displaced the Etruscans from the fertile Po valley, a displacment that helped to push the Etruscans from history's limelight.

A display of mummies in the Catacombs of the Capuchins , Palermo. For visitors to Palermo who enjoy the macabre and/or bizarre, the Catacombe dei Cappuccini (Catacombs of the Capuchins or Capuchin Catacombs) are a must-see. Like most displays of human remains, a visit to the mummies can lead to reflection on the meaning of death. But it goes without saying that this "human library" of thousands of bodies is not for the faint-hearted or weak-stomached! History
