Gels & Diffusion: Everything You Should Know - Part 1

But the reality is, most of us are lucky to have 2 or 3 lights in our arsenal. Knowing how to control your lights can help maximize their potential. In this two part segment we talk about the properties of light, and using gels to control the color, intensity, quality, and color temperature of your light sources. Learning to use lighting tools properly will help you create a great looking scene, even if you've got limited resources. Knowing a little bit about how light works can help you understand how using gels will affect your lights. Light has three primary colors, red, green, and blue. EXHIBIT EDUCATION: Color Splash. Physics of Light and Color - Human Vision and Color Perception

Vision involves the nearly simultaneous interaction of the two eyes and the brain through a network of neurons, receptors, and other specialized cells. The first steps in this sensory process are the stimulation of light receptors in the eyes, conversion of the light stimuli or images into signals, and transmission of electrical signals containing the vision information from each eye to the brain through the optic nerves. This information is processed in several stages, ultimately reaching the visual cortices of the cerebrum. The human eye is equipped with a variety of optical components including the cornea, iris, pupil, aqueous and vitreous humors, a variable-focus lens, and the retina (as illustrated in Figure 1).

Adaptation of the eye enables vision to function under such extremes of brightness. Modern girls are born to plump for pink 'thanks to berry-gathering female ancestors' By Fiona Macrae Updated: 06:40 GMT, 27 April 2011 Girls really do prefer pink – and not just because it is pretty.

The theory comes from Chinese scientists who asked more than 350 students to study 11 colours for three minutes and then rank them in order of preference. The students also underwent personality tests. The Physics of Light and Color. Light is a complex phenomenon that is classically explained with a simple model based on rays and wavefronts.
