I was staring at the computer, mired in writers’ block. I clicked on that Stumble button I installed in my toolbar but never use. Oh look! A new webpage has popped up! On it, a recipe for single-serving peanut butter cake you mix and microwave in a minute. The chocolate:peanut butter ratio wasn’t quite right, and so I made the cake chocolate with a spoonful of cocoa. Chocolate chips are a must – they turn into gooey pockets of melted chocolate in the finished product. Butter or spray a ramekin, or do it right in a mug. Oh how I love mac & cheese. It’s one of my favorite foods on the planet (besides chocolate). Whenever it’s cold outside or I need some comfort or I’m hungry or it’s a day that ends in ‘y’, I turn to mac & cheese. I’ve had to impose mac & cheese limits on myself to keep from eating it every day of the week. I love it so much I would run away with mac & cheese and never look back.

Can you believe that until maybe 3 or 4 years ago I’d never cooked anything other than the boxed kind? Let me be clear: This is stove-top mac & cheese. It’s perfectly delicious and satisfying comfort food that will solve all your problems and bring about world peace. OK maybe not that last part, but it’s definitely delicious. Kramer and I are truly pretzel fiends, so we figured what better way to satisfy our pretzel cravings than by making some soft pretzel bites?

Your ingredients. First, melt your butter. Then add it to your water, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the flour and pulse until smooth and combined. Now, on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough into a ball. Oil a large bowl, place the dough in it, and roll it out to make sure it is covered. When the dough has risen, remove it from the bowl and cut into smaller pieces. Now make those smaller pieces into 8 long ropes, about 22 inches in length. Now cut the ropes into 1-inch pieces. Cover the bites and allow them to rise again for another 20-30 minutes.
