A collaborative writing project on Political Ecology. POLLEN: Political Ecology Network.

Projects Hunter-Gatherer Resilience: Past, present and future adaptations to a world in transition. www.adapting.org.uk Hunting and gathering have been the major occupation of humans since Homo sapiens emerged. Although it has been the longest and most diverse bio-cultural adaptation in humanity’s existence, we know very little about the ways in which hunter-gatherers have adapted to pressures and maintained their resilience.

PECS — Programme on Ecosystem Change and Society. The Programme on Ecosystem Change and Society (PECS) aims to integrate research on the stewardship of social–ecological systems, the services they generate, and the relationships among natural capital, human wellbeing, livelihoods, inequality and poverty.

PECS — Programme on Ecosystem Change and Society

The vision of PECS is a world where human actions have transformed to achieve sustainable stewardship of social-ecological systems. The goal of PECS is to generate the scientific and policy-relevant knowledge of social-ecological dynamics needed to enable such a shift, including mitigation of poverty. PECS is a coordinating body for diverse research projects.

Transitions research recognizes that current environmental problems represent formidable societal challenges, whose solution requires deep structural changes in key areas of human activity, but that existing systems tend to be very difficult to ‘dislodge’ because they are stabilized by various lock-in processes that lead to path dependent developments and ‘entrapment’.

Les ressources Les Grands Entretiens. Interdisciplinary Agroecology Research Group of the FNRS. BC3 Basque Centre for Climate Change - Climate and Natural Environment. Climate change has complex impacts on human well-being. One key pathway is through its effects on natural capital (natural resources and ecosystems). BC3 is concerned with the scientific study of the interplay between climate change and the environment which ultimately affects human well-being. One of our crosscutting research lines is “Climate and the Natural Environment” (CNE). It addresses the interlinkages between climate change, natural capital and the benefits that derive from them in terms of human well-being. CNE research line is focused on both the role of natural capital assets (stocks of natural resources) and the flows of the benefits that derive through their management (ecosystem services) and the ways they interact with climate change.

The general objective of the Natural Resources (NR) research line is to investigate the links between climate change and the formation, depletion and exploitation of natural reserves of biotic and abiotic resources.
