Views #1448 The Right Age. Katie: So I want to ask you about when is the right age to have stuff or to start doing stuff. What do you think is the right age to start having a phone? Aimee: Oh, I think for security reasons, to, you know, keep the child safe, perhaps maybe about 11 or 12 when they start going around places without their parents. Katie: Yeah. Aimee: It would be a way for me to contact my daughter. So there are times where I wish I could phone her or text her, but she doesn't have a phone. Katie: A little bit too young. Aimee: Yes. Katie: How old were you when you first got your phone. Aimee: Well, I'm an old person so, you know, people didn't have mobile phones.

Aimee: My parents got it for me. Aimee: How about you? Katie: Oh goodness. Aimee: Okay. Katie: And I only got my first mobile phone or my first cellphone because my best friend who got the same one and I wanted to send like picture messages to her. Aimee: Picture messages. Katie: Picture messages. Aimee: I couldn't even send picture messages. Stop translating in your head & think directly in English. Once again the organisation which promotes Australia, Tourism Australia, is advertising the best job in the world. But this year, they have six jobs going, all for six months, with a great salary and extra spending money.

If you think one of these is your dream job, you have to make a 30-second video explaining why you are the best person for the role. But – be warned. Thousands of people will be competing for each post. The job of 'outback adventurer' is for someone with a passion for outdoor life, and in the Northern Territory there are plenty of wide-open spaces. Like the idea of 200 days of sunshine every year? Another island job is as 'wildlife caretaker' on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. Maybe you are not quite so keen on the great outdoors and your talents are more journalistic.

Are you a foodie? Finally, a fantastic job in Sydney. Adidas Makes Shoes Out of Plastic Pulled From the Ocean. Adidas is helping clean up the ocean by fishing out plastic bottles and using them to make shoes We’ve all heard the warning that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050. People are working on strategies to remove millions of tons of plastic waste from the ocean, but it will end up right back in it if we don’t figure out what to do with it. Plastic bottles can’t actually be recycled into new plastic bottles, and once plastic is created, it pretty much never goes away.

Adidas plans to get the ball rolling by making 1 million pairs of running shoes out of 11 million plastic bottles recovered from the ocean, near the Maldives. The shoes are now available from between $50 and $150 on Amazon: Adidas strives to eventually eliminate virgin plastic from its supply chain altogether. Presenter: The average American produces 4.3lbs (four point three pounds) of trash a day. That’s almost sixteen hundred pounds a year but if we took some simple steps we could go off the trash grid and minimise thousands of pounds of waste into just a single jar!

Going off Grid Lauren Singer: So, this is my trash jar. Presenter: Two years of trash in this tiny little jar. Lauren: Yep! Presenter: That’s crazy. Lauren: Yep. Presenter: Where did you get this idea to become zero waste? Lauren: Erm, it kind of all started when I was a senior and in NYU and I was starting environmental studies. Presenter: What was the easiest part about reducing your waste?

Lauren: I think it was just like seeing that I didn’t have to do that much to produce very little waste and by composting and buying in bulk I essentially eliminated eighty per cent of my waste. Presenter: I imagine you get asked a lot of questions about ‘how do you do this?’ Lauren: OK. Presenter: I’m going to throw out a few things too. Nancy Thuleen. Ringsjöskolan's radio show. Black beauty - free online reading. Extensive reading is one of the most useful language learning activities students can do. However, to be useful, the students have to know 95 per cent of the words in the text. To achieve this, you either have to choose a really simple text or you have to pre-teach the vocabulary. ADVERT: As there are not many simplified texts which can be used freely, I have decided to pre-teach all the words my intermediate students will need to understand the first chapter of the young readers’ edition of Black Beauty. Black Beauty – vocabulary Hand out the following mind map and ask your students to listen and repeat the words after you. Then ask the students to remember the words. Three activities that worked very well this week. In this post, I would like to share three activities that stood out in my teaching this week. They worked very well and I think that my students learned a lot from them. I hope you will find them useful and entertaining, too. The first activity is a speaking activity where students use relative clauses. I used this activity with my teen students who are at pre-intermediate level and they liked it and they produced a lot of English.

ADVERT: The second activity is a vocabulary revision activity. Relative Clauses – Speaking It is very difficult to make teenagers speak. As you can see there are sentences and students should fill them in with the information which is true for them. Now the students had to speak about these things but without the worksheets. I often feel that I do not revise enough.

That is why I decided to concentrate on revising this year. It is very simple. Each picture is shown for ten seconds, however, it is no problem to play the video faster. All Things Topics - Home. They show well on interactive whiteboards and can be used as writing, speaking, and listening prompts. If you're a teacher showing a PowerPoint presentation to the whole class, it's best to download and preview the slideshow before showing it. You can also have students access the ppt presentations in the school's computer lab.
