Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning Domains. Bloom's Taxonomy was created in 1956 under the leadership of educational psychologist Dr Benjamin Bloom in order to promote higher forms of thinking in education, such as analyzing and evaluating concepts, processes, procedures, and principles, rather than just remembering facts (rote learning). It is most often used when designing instruction or learning processes (Instructional Design) The Three Domains of Learning The committee identified three domains of educational activities or learning (Bloom, 1956): Cognitive: mental skills (knowledge) Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (attitude or self) Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (skills) Since the work was produced by higher education, the words tend to be a little bigger than we normally use. Domains can be thought of as categories. While the committee produced an elaborate compilation for the cognitive and affective domains, they omitted the psychomotor domain.

Dear eLearning Designers, Please Stick To These Basic Design Principles. Dear eLearning Designers, Please Stick To These Basic Design Principles In today’s market, eLearning professionals and trainers need a good working knowledge of design principles. This is not to imply that they need to understand code or acquire a design degree, rather they ought to be able to identify what makes a good course and what a bad. This guide details the fundamental principles every course developer must know including how to utilize techniques to help workflow and produce significant effects in eLearning design. 1. C.R.A.P. for Effective Visual Design The four basic principles present in every eLearning design can be abbreviated to CRAP. According to The Non Designers Design Book by Robin Williams, the four basic principles that apply to designing anything (including eLearning) are: Contrast. 2.

Most coherent, connected, and unified designs follow the principles of Gestalt, a term which means whole. Similarity. 3. Good Design Is Innovative. Cooltoolsforschools - home. ARCS Design Process. The ARCS motivational design process is a systematic problem solving approach that requires knowledge of human motivation and progresses from learner analysis to solution design. More specifically, the process includes: Knowing and identifying the elements of human motivation, Analyzing audience characteristics to determine motivational requirements, Identifying characteristics of instructional materials and processes that stimulate motivation, Selecting appropriate motivational tactics, and Applying and evaluating appropriate tactics.

Thus, motivational design includes a systematic process that contains these steps and results in the preparation of learning environments that contain tactics, or activities, that have a predictable influence on the amount and direction of a person’s behavior. Motivation consists of the amount of effort a person is willing to exert in pursuit of a goal; hence, motivation has magnitude and direction. Keller, J. M. (2008). Keller, J. Keller, J. ARCS Model. Instructional Design. Scaffolding helps to build a framework for the learners What is Instructional Design? Instructional Design is defined as “a systematic process that is employed to develop education and training programs in a consistent and reliable fashion” (Reiser, Dempsey, 2007).

In addition, it may be thought of as a framework for developing modules or lessons that (Merrill, Drake, Lacy, Pratt, 1996): increase and enhance the possibility of learning makes the acquisition of knowledge and skill more efficient, effective, and appealing, encourages the engagement of learners so that they learn faster and gain deeper levels of understanding In a nutshell, instructional design can be thought of as a process for creating effective and efficient learning processes.

The list at the bottom of the page links to several types of instructional design processes. Some, such as Gagné and Keller, are concepts that work in most instructional design projects. They help to define what it means to be human.

Most important thought during our lives will center on such essential questions. What does it mean to be a good friend? If we were to draw a cluster diagram of the Questioning Toolkit, Essential Questions would be at the center of all the other types of questions. All the other questions and questioning skills serve the purpose of "casting light upon" or illuminating Essential Questions. Most Essential Questions are interdisciplinary in nature. Essential Questions probe the deepest issues confronting us . . . complex and baffling matters which elude simple answers: Life - Death - Marriage - Identity - Purpose - Betrayal - Honor - Integrity - Courage - Temptation - Faith - Leadership - Addiction - Invention - Inspiration.

Essential Questions are at the heart of the search for Truth. Essential Questions offer the organizing focus for a unit. EdTech 10: From Mindsets to Minecraft. Over the last semester, our school has been participating in a wonderful project called Crazy Crazes organised by Mrs Karen Stadler (@ict_integrator) of Elkanah House in Cape Town, South Africa. Schools all around the globe research the current crazes in their schools and share this information via a wikispace. My year 2 ICT class are slightly younger than most of the participants but I decided to join as the class were studying different countries with their classroom teachers and one of the boys is South African.

The project has resulted in a whole lot of learning not only for the students but also for me as I have never used a wiki. I have also learnt to use Youblisher to showcase the students’ work about our town and school and VoiceThread to allow the other classes to hear us singing the National anthem. The national finals of the MESA USA National Engineering Design Competition offers a chance to root for our next generation of engineers and scientists, many of whom are devoting their energy and creativity to designing a better world. It's also an opportunity to learn from the experts about how to imagine a design challenge that hits the sweet spot: relevant to real life, challenging enough to be interesting, and achievable for diverse learners.

Here are some excerpts: New Classroom Questioning Techniques for the Best Year Ever. Teachers ask 400 questions a day -- 70,000 a year, according to The Guardian.

While preparing so many questions is a lot of work, you can save time by using some of the questioning techniques (QTs) described below. But first . . . Take the Questioning Quiz QTs have been the subject of hundreds of studies, many of which Kathleen Cotton summarizes (PDF, 161KB). I've worded some of her most insightful takeaways into this short quiz. Question 1 Which is more effective for fostering learning? Answer: "A", Oral questions. Question 2 Should posing questions before a reading be done with students who are: a) Older/better readers?

Answer: "A", because young/struggling readers often only read the parts of the text that help them answer the questions. Question 3 Increasing the use of higher-order questions to ___ percent or more is positively related to student-to-student interactions, speculative thinking, length of student responses, and relevant questions posed by learners.

Answer: 50 percent. Question 4. 14 books for Experience Designers — M-C DEAN. Photo credit: poppet with a camera I read a lot of books, especially about experience design, consulting, Agile and innovation. The last few months I've read a seriously good batch of XD books, and I wanted to share with you those titles. I think they're useful for people both new to field and the vetarans too. There's such a wide choice of books around this relatively new subject, and there are a lot of useless ones too unfortunately. This list has a bunch of books I enjoyed reading and that I find useful as reference works. Enjoy. There are The Principles of Instructional Design by Gagne, The Systematic Design of Instruction by Dick & Carey and of course, Evaluating Training Programs: The Four Levels by Kirkpatrick. Most of these are likely required reading in a Master’s Degree program on instructional systems design.

But, when you’re ready to move beyond the basics, below is a list of the 10 books I believe to be invaluable resources for instructional designers. And, because being an effective instructional designer means you understand more than just the content you are delivering, I have included a number of books in my list that have nothing to do with designing courseware or adult learning theories. "Before Leaving ADDIE for SAM, I was stuck in an instructional design rut. 4 Ways to Enhance Your Class with Google Hangouts.
