MIT's David Hardt is working to move microfluidics from the lab to the factory. Hardt heads the Center for Polymer Microfabrication — a multidisciplinary research group funded by the Singapore-MIT Alliance — which is designing manufacturing processes for microfluidics from the ground up. The group is analyzing the behavior of polymers under factory conditions, building new tools and machines to make polymer-based chips at production levels, and designing quality-control processes to check a chip’s integrity at submicron scales — all while minimizing the cost of manufacturing. “These are devices that people want to make by the millions, for a few pennies each,” says Hardt, the Ralph E. and Eloise F.

Osprey video - Pandion haliaetus - 00
Occurring on every continent except Antarctica, the osprey is the one of the most widespread birds of prey. The plumage of the osprey is generally brown above and white below, with a whitish head and a dark stripe through each eye (2) (4) . The wings are long and pointed and the legs are stout and heavily scaled (4) . Also known as the fish hawk, the osprey exhibits several adaptations to hunting and eating fish, including dense, oily plumage, large feet, scaly soles, and a reversible outer toe that helps with carrying fish through the air (2) (4) . The juvenile is fairly similar to the adult but the head is more darkly-streaked and the upperparts appear scaled with cream and pale rufous (4) .drums

I’ve been getting the predictable hysterical reactions to today’s column. And it’s true — I’m a Sharia Jewish atheist Marxist who hates America! Bwahahaha! But one thing actually worth reacting to is the assertion I keep getting that this is all a distraction, that even if we seized all the money of the top 0.1% it would make no difference to the fiscal outlook. Here’s a piece of advice nobody will take: before you make assertions about numbers, look at the numbers.

A contributor at Seeking Alpha who goes by the handle Regarded Solutions wrote a post about a month ago that sets out to debunk 10 retirement lies. Per the bio page Regarded Solutions is retired, there is no mention of gender and because of the liberal use of the word we in the bio I'm not sure if this is husband and wife but to keep things simple I will just use the word he when a pronoun is called for. Before getting into the retirement lies he provides very transparent information on a dividend based portfolio. Lie number 1 was "You will need multi-millions of dollars to retire 'comfortably'" which of course is good timing after I tried to explore a reader's comment about needing $2 million. His point here seems to be you can't spend more than what comes in. This is true of course so then what is comfortable?

Listen, I'm a Canadian. I love my country, and unlike many of my compatriots, I don't follow the news of our big neighbour to the south very closely . Of course, it's hard not to at least keep an eye on some aspects of American politics, say Novemeber's coming death-match for the oval office for example, but I'd never describe my knowledge of the affairs in Washington as intimate.
