I didn’t bundle up on our walk to the park after dinner. I did not turn up the heat when I got home.

I removed my layers down to a t-shirt and procrastinated putting on my slippers just so that my chill could be cured from the warmth of a cup of hot cocoa topped with homemade marshmallows. I remained in a continuous slightly chilled state until I tucked my sweet boys in bed, so that my enjoyment of my warm treat would be uninterrupted. For moments like these I not only welcome the cold, I invite it in like a long lost friend because nothing is more satisfying to remove a chill then with a steaming mug of rich hot cocoa and sweet vanilla scented homemade marshmallows.

Ingredients adapted from Alton Brown Method Place the gelatin into the bowl of a stand mixer along with 1/2 cup of the water. Turn the mixer on low speed and, while running, slowly pour the sugar syrup down the side of the bowl into the gelatin mixture. Brownies are huge in our house, but I’ve never made brownies from scratch, weird I know. Those brownies from a bag are just too good and easy, or so I thought. (ok brain fart, I have made brownies before, like zucchini brownies, 2 kinds, lemon brownies, pumpkin blondies, and black bean brownies) So on Valentines day I decided to make a special treat. This recipe isn’t difficult and the results are so totally worth the effort. I initially used this recipe for mascarpone frosting too. Let me show you how the brownies are made. Ingredients: 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature; 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar; 1-1/2 cups brown sugar; 4 large eggs, at room temp; 2 ounces red food coloring (optional); 4 teaspoons pure vanilla extract; 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour; 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder; 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Food Snots: Beignets. I posted this recipe a while back, but it was one of the first recipes I put on my blog, so I badly needed to update the picture. Here is my first picture that I took with my little digital camera. I know :/ It’s a wonder anyone started following my blog at all. But that is part of learning and improving on things, right?

Plus the camera really does make all the difference. I remember telling my husband, in an attempt to persuade him to let me buy my camera, that you are only as good as the equipment you are using, and it is totally true. I first wanted to try these after I saw beignets on the movie The Princess And The Frog, and they are amazing!! 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/ 45 degrees C)3/4 cup white sugar1 teaspoon salt2 eggs1 cup evaporated milk7 cups all-purpose flour1/4 cup shortening (I used butter flavored shortening to make them taste better)1 quart vegetable oil for frying1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar Roll out dough 1/8 inch thick. Lemon Pound Cake. This recipe is from the Ritz Carlton Cooking School I went to back in August.

I've been working my way through some of my favorite dishes at home, and this lemon pound cake was the first recipe I attempted. I loved the cake when we had it at cooking school, and I wanted to share it with Chicken Legs. The cake turned out fantastic! It tasted just like it did at cooking school. I’m just gonna start out by saying, I am so stinking excited about this recipe! A couple of weeks ago I had a follower e-mail me about a frosting recipe that would glow in the dark. Or I should say almost glow in the dark. Specifically she needed a cupcake recipe that could glow under a black light, but the trouble was that I couldn’t find one on the internet to try, so I decided to try my hand at making one. After a couple of tries I am glad to report that I have figured it out!!

Yay! And the secret ingredient that causes it to glow is… Tonic Water! Then it dawned on me that if you make gelatin with tonic water the jello will glow. After a few dips and trips back into the freezer to set, the frosting glowed!! 1 black light24 prepared and cooled cupcakes White Glow In The Dark Frosting 7 cups confectioners’ sugar1 cup vegetable shortening1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract5 tablespoons tonic water {diet tonic water works too}mini chocolate chips morsels A Food Snots Original. Nutella Yogurt Dip—two ingredients, 3 minutes . . . it doesn’t get much easier than that! I made this dip for a get-together I hosted at my house yesterday morning, and it was a definite hit. I served it alongside little glass teacups filled with fruit. The dip makes the perfect accompaniment to fresh cut fruit. It tastes like a decadent treat, but is gentler on the waistline due to the use of plain, nonfat Greek yogurt. Not only does this dip make a great addition to any party food lineup, but it’s a perfect afternoon snack for you little ones.

You will love seeing how fast that fresh fruit disappears! Nutella Yogurt Fruit Dip Makes 10 servings 1 cup plain, nonfat Greek yogurt 1/2 cup Nutella Mix the yogurt and Nutella together in a small bowl until completely combined. Creamy Blackberry Frozen Yogurt. Summer has been so good to us this year. I'm trying desperately to hold on to any remainders of this wonderful season. I've already frozen tons of slices of peaches for a cold winter afternoon when I need a juicy peach cobbler. I'm now making my way through all the blackberries we have close to our house. Jam will be made, don't you worry.

For now, because we've been enduring the craziest heat wave, the blackberries are turned into smoothies and other cold treats. So far my favorite has been the frozen yogurt. Creamy Blackberry Frozen Yogurt(printable version) 3 cups fresh blackberries3 cups yogurt cheese (or Greek yogurt)1 can sweetened condensed milk ( 14 ounce can, it's fine if it's a bit more or a bit less)In a blender, puree the blackberries with the sweetened condensed milk.In a medium bowl mix the puree with the yogurt cheese.Pour the mixture in to your ice-cream maker and follow the manufacturer's directions. Gone to the Dogs. I usually groan every time I go to PetSmart and look at the price of the “good” dog treats. I mean, buying the “cheap” ones isn’t an option because my dog is a little king and is spoiled rotten.

He should get the Snickers of doggie goodies, right? However, I thought it might be fun to try to make some homemade dog treats to see how Einstein likes them. I mean, why should my baking serve just the humans in the house? I was going to make some beef-flavored treats, but I thought that Einstein would enjoy peanut butter better since he DOES go crazy for some good PB. Ingredients: 2 cups whole-wheat flour 1 Tablespoon baking powder 1 cup natural peanut butter 1 cup low-fat milk Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. The judge’s verdict: “Can I PLEASE eat them ALL???” Frosted bake shop. This cake reminds me of summer. My parents always have a great garden in the summer and give me lots of zucchini. I love to make zucchini bread and when my mom gave me this recipe about 7 years ago, I knew it would be good too. I have been making it ever since. I like to shred a couple of zucchini, bag up the correct amounts and put it in the fridge or freezer to make this quickly.

Sour Patch Grapes {Leprachaun Candy} My sister-in-law Ashley told me about an idea she saw on Pinterest for Sour Patch Grapes. I went out that day and bought what I needed to try them out: Green grapes and Green Jello. Since St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner I thought it was fitting to call them Leprechaun Candy.

I’m not usually one to buy sour candy. Like at the movies, I never buy the Sour Patch Kids or Mike n Ike’s, I buy the chocolate. These candy grapes are as easy as washing your grapes, rolling them in the jello powder, and letting them chill. I made these later in the evening to let them refrigerate overnight. Sour Patch Grapes {Leprachaun Candy} Ingredients bunch of Green Grapes1 pkg Lime Jello Instructions Wash your grapes thoroughly, you want them to be a little wet so the gelatin powder sticks to them.Place the gelatin powder on a plate and roll grapes into the powder, completely covering.

My sis-in-law (SIL) Dana was telling me about how often she goes to my friend Hannah's blog and tries out her recipes. She was telling me about all the yummy ones she has tried, including the sticky bun breakfast ring and told me I had to try it. So I decided this morning was the best time to make them while I had the LDS General Conference playing in the background. Let me just say WOW! Delicious!

Ham & Cheese Pretzel Bites. Food / I love you more than cookies... so sweet :) on imgfave. Halloween Bones. Happy Halloween! Our friend Marcos gave us an adorable little Halloween book, Goulish Goodies. If I got the story correctly, Marcos’ wife is a teacher and one of her students’ mother is the author, Sharon Bowers. It’s full of great ideas for Halloween treats, many that you can do with kids, and there’s enough in there to last you for years. Lon liked the idea of bones, made with pretzels, marshmallows, and white chocolate. It’s only three ingredients so you can still slip this in as a last minute activity. While there is a recipe, you really don’t need one. You can use different sizes of pretzel sticks/rods and different sizes of marshmallows to create different sizes of bones. You stick a marshmallow at the end of each pretzel stick/rod. Melt the white chocolate in a double boiler, removing from the heat just before all the chocolate is melted.

They are pretty convincing bones. Ice: hmm…what’s that? Ice: Maybe they won’t see me creep closer. Lon: Ice! Ice: huh? Happy Halloween! Tips n' tricks / How to get marbleized cupcakes!
