On the terrace next to our hotel I take a photo of one of the approximately 15 chairs around a long, fixed table. A chair cushion has been fitted onto a tin bucket. Three wooden bars screwed onto the bucket serve as legs. In order to increase the chair’s stability, the bars have been bent outward. Probably under steam—the same method by which the components of Vienna coffeehouse chairs are bent.

It is designed as a tool for progressive knowledge domain visualization (Chen, 2004). It focuses on finding critical points in the development of a field or a domain, especially intellectual turning points and pivotal points. Detailed case studies are given in (Chen, 2006) and other publications. CiteSpace provides various functions to facilitate the understanding and interpretation of network patterns and historical patterns, including identifying the fast-growth topical areas, finding citation hotspots in the land of publications, decomposing a network into clusters, automatic labeling clusters with terms from citing articles, geospatial patterns of collaboration, and unique areas of international collaboration.

Anthropocene Curriculum & Anthropocene Campus

A deep integration of cross-disciplinary thinking, mutual learning, new modes of research, and civic commitment seem key for the future of universities, academies, research platforms, and cultural institutions as situated spaces of knowledge production and its dissemination. The Anthropocene Curriculum is probing the collaborative potentials of learning under Anthropocene auspices. The establishment of this project originates from a longer thread within The Anthropocene Project. A series of workshops in 2012 as well as The Anthropocene Project: An Opening in 2013 have been convened to discuss ongoing aspects of research nd to collect visions to explore alternative forms of knowledge production and collaboration. How to Use an iPad With a Mac for Whiteboard Presentations

You can turn a Mac computer into a virtual whiteboard just by installing an app on your iPad. Apps vary in price, ranging from free to about $10, with different features and layouts, but most work essentially the same way. As you draw on the iPad, the screen is displayed on the Mac's Web browser through your Wi-Fi network, or through the Internet using the app developer's website.

It’s an old working-class neighborhood surrounded by really affluent areas. You get a pretty good image of the successive strata of immigration that France has known since the 1920’s: Portuguese, Eastern Europeans, people from Northern Africa or the West Indies… It’s very, very mixed. We get lots of single families. Kids who live with their mum – the father’s gone or was never around. There’s also parents who are sick, unemployed or alcoholic. We’re in a suburb near Paris. On the day after the shooting, it was decided by the French ministry of education that a minute of silence would be observed in all secondary schools across France, to honour the victims. She retells what happened next: “It was really early on, before the hostage situation and all the rest took place. There are three or four Muslim kids in that class and they felt uneasy with the notion. “Apparently, one kid lost it with a teacher assistant who told him off.

Cooper's work promises to totally recontextualize the ground behind it, thereby revising the way we think. That innovation is particularly evident in his latest release, 'Zac's Haunted House'. The novel appropriates an experience somewhere between carnival mirror labyrinth, deleted Disney snuff film, and a deep web comic strip by Satan, building out the idea that a book doesn't have to simply be sentences on paper, or even terribly concerned with language at all.

Photo Efforts to record the pattern of human heartbeats — the wavy lines so familiar on hospital monitors — go back at least to 1854, when a German scientist pressed a weighted plate against an artery, connected it to a stylus made of a strand of hair, and traced the pulsations on a moving strip of paper blackened by the soot of an oil lamp. Now, using innovative digital processing techniques to turn pictures of repeating waveforms into sounds, an artist and a sound historian have converted that mute pattern of lines into the rhythmic lub-dub of a heart. And working with a slightly newer medical chart, they have resurrected in sound the pulse of a 100-year-old Frenchman whose heart started beating in 1769, 20 years before the French Revolution.
