STEP. Minecraft Modding Classes - ThoughtSTEM. Beneath the world of Minecraft is an equally fascinating world of hardware and software -- built upon 150 years of computer science history.
This class introduces students to this new world by exploring client/server architectures, network security, operating systems, and computer programming. To explore this world, students will be guided in setting up Minecraft servers and building Minecraft mods – while also being taught key computer science principles. It doesn't take a PhD to know that when students are engaged, they learn.
Any game that fails to engage students gets chucked into the trash or relegated to a yard sale. Ergo the hypothesis that if "education" is more like a game, kids will be engaged and learn. Of course, the experimental evidence is mixed. Plenty of games have found a role in the classroom, from Monopoly to Oregon Trail and more recently, Minecraft. Educators and game designers continue to hone ideas about how to build truly engaging games that carry genuine lessons. December 23, 2009 by philb81 Different options for puzzles in Tarsia At a recent Subject Learning Coach event we were shown a tool called Tarsia.
It’s a tool that you can use to create all kinds of jigsaw activities – you could use it for pretty much anything. The way that it works is that you choose a shape that you want the jigsaw to be and then fill in questions and answers and it gives you the jigsaw pieces to cut out and give to your students. Rather than questions, you can easily insert images to match with words – it is a very flexible resource. There are a number of different shapes that you can choose – each one requires a different number of questions – I started with the hexagon, needing 30 questions, but I realised that might be a bit ambitious You can download the program free from this link: Useful links: En un evento recente del Subject Learning Coach network nos mostraron un herramiento que se llama Tarsia.
