Moving Walls Transform Apartment: Four Minutes of WOW! (VIDEO) A year ago we wrote about Gary Chang's Domestic Transformer, an incredible 344 square foot apartment that could change into any of 24 different designs. We showed pictures and plans, but more than any house I have seen, this one needs a movie. Planet Green visited it for the World's Greenest Homes, and it is truly four minutes of wow. Get a bigger version on Planet Green.I repeat the plans below the fold for reference while watching.... all photos: Marcel Lam for The New York Times One learns a lot from the video that we didn't know last year- that swinging hammock is really in the center of a huge home theater setup.

The wall units, which are suspended from steel tracks bolted into the ceiling, seem to float an inch above the reflective black granite floor. A simplified drawing of the apartment from AFP. Chang also explains why this kind of design is so important in a world of diminishing resources, particularly when one of those resources is space: Plans of the uniit: How To Ergonomically Optimise Your Workspace. We spend a lot of time sitting at our desks every day, and while it may not look like it, it can wreak havoc with out bodies. Here’s how to set up a healthy, ergonomic workspace to keep you comfortable and injury-free. Some of you may not realise how unfriendly your workspace is to your body, while others of you have already started experiencing repetitive strain injury (RSI) from an improperly set up desk.

A number of different factors can cause injuries (yes, even at a desk), and they may not always be obvious — for example, slouching and keeping your shoulders tense can not only cause pinched nerves in your shoulders, but even hurt your wrists. If you haven’t given a lot of thought to the comfort of your workspace, it’s probably time to give it an ergonomic makeover. For the purposes of this guide, we’re going to assume you’re using a sitting desk. Early life[edit] Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck was born into the Pomeranian minor nobility, while his father was stationed as an army officer at Saarlouis in the Prussian Rhine Province. He was educated in boarding schools in Berlin and joined the corps of cadets at Potsdam and Berlin-Lichterfelde.

In 1890, he was commissioned a Leutnant into the Imperial German Army. Military career[edit] In 1900, Lettow-Vorbeck was posted to China as a member of the international alliance forces to quell the Boxer Rebellion. Beginning in 1904, he was assigned to German South-West Africa (now Namibia), during the Namaqua and Herero insurrection. In 1907, Lettow-Vorbeck was promoted to Major and assigned to the staff of 11th Army Corps.

While travelling to his new assignment, Lettow-Vorbeck formed what would prove to be a lifelong friendship with Danish author Karen Blixen (also known by her pen name of Isak Dinesen), who was travelling aboard the same liner. Confusion of parody and sincere expression Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture saying that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, every parody of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied.[1][2][3] Origin[edit] Poe's law is based on a comment written by Nathan Poe in 2005 on christianforums.com, an Internet forum on Christianity.

The message was posted during a debate on creationism, where a previous poster had remarked to another user: "Good thing you included the winky. Otherwise people might think you are serious".[4] The reply by Nathan Poe read:[1] Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article. The original statement of Poe's law referred specifically to creationism, but it has since been generalized to apply to any kind of fundamentalism or extremism.[3] See also[edit] References[edit] Summary Best Practice Business Processes. The Top 15 Marketing & Social Media Trends To Watch In 2011. January 2, 2011 | 20 Comments Now that we are in the new year of planning, marketing teams everywhere are crafting and executing their plans for the next 12 months. It’s going to be a busy and competitive year, and in looking back at 2010 there were plenty of big developments that point to a 2011 year filled with innovation, new business models, possibilities for new technologies like mobile and tablets and continued growth and attention on social media. I spent the last week reading many recaps from other blogs and media properties, as well as looking back on some of the most noteworthy developments over the course of 2010. I originally planned on creating a list of the top ten trends I’ll be watching for and sharing with clients, but as I compiled this list I found myself landing on 15 big trends instead.

Below is an embedded presentation detailing the 15 trends, and they are highlighted in short form in this post as well. What do you think about this list? Free help for employers and employees on how to resolve workplace problems... Untitled Page. Not all of these are necessarily very unusual. Sometimes I pick them because they have unusual origins, or a little used secondary definition. Sometimes it's just a word that people know, but would be hard-pressed to exactly define. But most of them are just cool, weird dictionary finds. So far these are simply arranged in the order they appeared, with the most recent one at the top of the list. Okay, so there's now some cool words cobbled together into sentences. Build an Adjustable Standing Desk with Pipe and Kee Klamp - Blog - Projects,...

This project got stared the other day when I read and discussed a couple of posts on the Lifehacker web site about the health risks of working while sitting all the time. I got inspired to do something about it and decided that I would build myself a desk that I could stand at. One of the goals that I had for the desk was to make it versatile enough to be used in a number of settings. My thought was something that I could use in my office, but might also be used with a treadmill. In this video I talk about the idea for the standing desk: Design My design consisted of a telescoping pole that went from floor to ceiling and a perpendicular pole that could support a keyboard or laptop. Sketchup Model Thanks to my pal Sam, the Sketchup Master, you can also download this project and play with it in Sketchup. Building the Standing Desk Design is one thing, implementation is another.

Overlawyered — Chronicling the high cost of our legal system. BAYES THEOREM IN THE COURT OF APPEAL. Explaining Evidence Logically Bernard Robertson and Tony Vignaux In Dennis John Adams (No 2) (CA)(Crim Div) 16 October 1997, the Court of Appeal considered for the third time the admissibility of instruction on the use of Bayes Theorem to combine items of evidence. This was the first time that matter had been properly argued but the Court, including on this occasion the Lord Chief Justice, preferred the uninstructed comments of their brethren to the argument put before them.

The Court drew comfort from a favourable comment on one of the two previous cases in the Cases and Comments section of Crim LR but did not consider any of the unfavourable comment. In Adams, the prosecution evidence was treated as consisting only of a DNA analysis for which a very high likelihood ratio was given. Other items of evidence, such as the failure of the victim to pick out the accused on an ID parade, tended to favour the accused. But there is no such clear distinction.
