The Traffic in Photographs

Sekula regards the photograph as a mobile, contingent and inherently social entity, always caught between the twin ideological demands of aestheticism (or subjectivity) and scientism (objectivism). Allan Sekula is a North American artist, writer and critic. His books include Photography Against the Grain (1984), Fish Story (1995), Geography Lesson: Canadian Notes (1997), Dismal Science (1999) and The Traffic in Photographs (MIT Press, 2011), which he will present in this lecture organised by the MACBA Independent Studies Program (PEI).
