Where Science, Art and Photography Intersect (25 photos)

Inspired by children's books of science experiments, he photographs everyday objects (like matches, pens and mirrors) in ways we've never imagined, often using multiple exposures to tell the story. For example, in Fifteen Hours, the last photo in this set, Charland used 15 exposures to show how the flame of a dinner candle beautifully burns down. In still others, like in Cube with Rule and Penlight, Caleb Charland sits in pitch black darkness and, with a penlight in his hand, traces the shape of a cube along a ruler. Though at first glance, you think you're just looking at a box, you soon notice that the mysterious shadows are Charland's hands. I caught up with Charland to ask him a few questions about his work. The beauty of it all is that there's an honesty to Charland's work.

Puyehue volcano erupted for the first time in half a century on June 4, 2011, prompting evacuations for 3,500 people as it sent a cloud of ash that reached Argentina. The National Service of Geology and Mining said the explosion that sparked the eruption also produced a column of gas 10 kilometers (six miles) high, hours after warning of strong seismic activity in the area. Built to kill - 40 breathtaking closeup photographs of animals

It involves a thorough understanding of the behavior of animals and in addition to it, one needs to have sound technical skills, such as being able to expose in the right manner. Its all about being in the right place at the right time. Surprisingly enough, photographing some species may require stalking skills or the use of a camouflage as well. 1265004417. The Norwegian photographer and videographer, whose work has been published in National Geographic, Reuters, the Washington Post and elsewhere, is probably best known for his mind-blowing photographs of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano that erupted in Iceland in 2010, disrupting air travel between North America and Europe for nearly a week. Terje Sorgjerd has a talent for videography and time-lapse photography as well; his video "The Aurora," recorded over the span of a week in the Kirkenes and Pas National Park bordering Russia, captured the ripple of the Aurora Borealis.
