Um... I don't feel I can be summed up in fewer than two lines, but I like books.

UW River Falls. The Mind. Dan Gilbert asks, Why are we happy? Self Improvement. 14 websites to make you a more intelligent person. Six Steps to Meditation. This meditation lasts 15 to 20 minutes. It is a meditation of SIX steps. Each step will take roughly two and half to about three minutes. I will first explain to you all the steps and then you can start. The FIRST is the step of rhythmic breathing. Breathe in slowly, easily, evenly, and deeply and then breathe out slowly, easily, evenly, and deeply. Within three minutes you should be able to breathe in and out about ten times. But you need not count. The SECOND is the step of detached observation. Then we come to the THIRD step.

Then we come to the FOURTH step. The FIFTH is meditation on your immortality. And now we come to the FINAL, the last, the SIXTH step. And now if you are ready, we shall begin with the meditation. The FIRST step, the step of rhythmic breathing. Now we come to the SECOND step; it is the step of detached observation. We move to the THIRD step. And now we come to the FIFTH step. By GOD’S grace, our period of silence is over. Education/Knowledge. Read These Seven Books, and You’ll be a Better Writer.

Donald Miller I used to play golf but I wasn’t very good. I rented a DVD, though, that taught me a better way to swing, and after watching it a few times and spending an hour or so practicing, I knocked ten strokes off my game. I can’t believe how much time I wasted when a simple DVD saved me years of frustration. I’d say something similar is true in my writing career. If you read these books, your writing will improve to the point people who read your work will begin to comment on how well you write. Sometimes the difference between an okay writer and a great writer is simple. . • The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: This book is aimed at writers, but it’s also applicable to anybody who does creative work. Pressfield leaves out all the mushy romantic talk about the writing life, talk I don’t find helpful. . • On Writing Well by William Zinsser: Zinsser may be the best practical writing coach out there. . • Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott: Save the Cat by Blake Snyder: On Writing, by Stephen King:

Barry Schwartz: Using our practical wisdom. Jeremy Rifkin on "the empathic civilization". Malcolm Gladwell on spaghetti sauce. Dictionary Evangelist. Erin McKean redefines the dictionary. Phonics. The goal of phonics is to enable beginning readers to decode new written words by sounding them out, or in phonics terms, blending the sound-spelling patterns.

Since it focuses on the spoken and written units within words, phonics is a sublexical approach and, as a result, is often contrasted with whole language, a word-level-up philosophy for teaching reading (see History and controversy below). Another sublexical approach is "pronunciation guide"—printing a word's phonetic transcription (or respelling) directly above that word, as a pronunciation guide to help the student pronounce the word.

Reading education for languages with complex orthography such as Chinese uses the pronunciation-guide approach (see Pinyin), and an implementation for English reading education is now available called Phonetically Intuitive English. Since the turn of the 20th century phonics has been widely used in primary education and in teaching literacy throughout the English-speaking world. Lexical reading.
