Fellowship Program Founded in 1972, A.I.R. is the first non-profit, artist-run gallery for women in the country. The announcement for the gallery’s first exhibition elaborates our founding concept best, stating, “A.I.R. does not sell art; it changes attitudes about art by women. A.I.R. offers women artists a space to show work as innovative, transitory and free of market trends as the artists’ conceptions demands.” Based on the feminist principles of economic cooperation and decision by consensus, A.I.R. continues to offer an alternative venue for women that protects the creative process and the individual voice of the artist.

Our goal is to provide support to our artists by finding them galleries and other venues around the world to expose their works.
We also maintain the relationship with the gallery for the artist to provide regular and smooth communication. This creates an environment for the artist where time and tranquility are on their side. Most all of our artists are well established and can be found in museums, have won awards, are sold at auction and are in major private collections around the world.
They each have up to 18 images on our site representing some of their works. Kantor Gallery was first founded in Los Angeles in the 1940's by Paul Kantor, a renowned art dealer often credited with discovering and nurturing the talent of Richard Diebenkorn.
Niels Kantor has been continuing the legacy begun by his father since 1994 when he reopened Kantor Gallery as a venue to showcase emerging talent as well as established artists. Since that time he has shown artists ranging from blue chip artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol to emerging, mid-career artists including Kenny Scharf, Pheobe Washburn, Simone Shubuck, Yumiko Kayukawa and many others. Between 2005-2007, Niels Kantor partnered with Chelsea gallerist Zach Feuer on Kantor/Feuer--a joint venture that allowed each to bring new and interesting artists to the Los Angeles area. La jeune galeriste envisageait depuis plusieurs années de créer son propre espace d’exposition. Consciente de la difficulté d’une telle entreprise, elle opte pour un projet alternatif et émergeant, celui de transformer son propre appartement en "flat’s gallery". Ses rencontres avec de jeunes artistes issus des écoles d’art (Beaux-arts de Paris, Arts de Cergy - Pontoise, Arts Décoratifs) et le tissu culturel parisien dans lequel elle évolue seront déterminants.L’aspect positif de ce dispositif en appartement haussmannien, qui montre les œuvres en condition d’habitat, et permet aux visiteurs, amateurs, collectionneurs et professionnels,de profiter pleinement du caractère intime et privé de l’œuvre d’art, confortent aussi son choix.
