Another thing I got up to during my week long Making Friday was to make a hanging succulent garden in my studio. It all started with the impulse buy of a magnificent Burro’s Tail from Aspen Flowers in Loop Street, and next thing I was googling macrame tutorials on the internet. Just look at how it turned out! It all came together quite quickly, after I learned how to make a really easy macrame hanger that’s not too desperately retro. Made from black cotton rope, it’s actually quite elegant, I think.
DIY Window Herb Planters From IKEA Pots April 19, 2012 by Robin Plaskoff Horton I come from a healthy family tree of Midwest farmers, but by the time I inherited the family’s green thumb it was actually more like a dry shade of brown. After being uprooted last year from the never-ending greenness I loved in San Francisco, I was repotted in a world of winters in Pennsylvania. The sudden change has helped me channel a bit of the farmer in me to recreate a bit of the green California world I left behind.
Urbio is a new magnetic-backed and modular vertical garden system that easily enables you to bring green to empty urban walls . As urban dwellers, or those who live and work in small spaces, it can be difficult to find an area in which to exercise one’s green thumb. Urbio’s magnetic system can transform any wall or ferrous surface into a beautiful vertical garden. Each eco-plastic pot is equipped with large neodymium magnets strong enough to hold almost anything on the wall. Modular Vertical Garden Brings Green to Urban Walls

The modular system is great for creating a small green wall or larger vertical garden on the terrace or in the kitchen. Minigarden’s contemporary design is a fresh take on vertical gardening for for patios, decks, rooftops, and even for surrounding windows or covering an unsightly fence. As far as the backyard garden at casa de radmegan goes, most of my vegetables have ceased production for the season. The pitchers on my carnivorous plants are browning. My sweet little alien-like conophytums and lithops were covered up last week to protect against too much rain. On the whole, my garden has closed up shop for the winter.

I have a soft spot in my heart for cinder blocks — I consider them the closest thing to Legos for adults, and I get really excited when people use them in cool ways. I’ve seen many cinder block planters, which is understandable: The combination of gray cement and green herbs and succulents is lovely. Inspired by a cinder block planter project she saw on Apartment Therapy, Kristin decided to expand on the idea and incorporate more salvaged elements to create an outdoor bar. The mix of materials and colors is pretty and unexpected, and I love the idea that if you plant herbs in the blocks, you can simply reach down to add a sprig of something to your cocktails. Nicely done, Kristin! before & after: cinder block planter bar

Morning, everyone! Claire here, with a weekend project that’s perfect for all of you who are gearing up for lots of holiday cooking. Remember two weeks ago when I asked for your opinion on which hanging herb garden you liked best? Well, your votes weighed heavily in favor of option #1… so, using it as inspiration, I created my very own indoor herb display. So excited to share the final product…and to get cooking with my personal garden just in for guests to arrive! Want to make your own?

Transformed :: Hanging Herb Garden Happy Thursday, everyone! Am I (Claire) the only one stunned by December’s arrival? With the holidays quickly approaching, the next few weeks will be devoted to totally prepping my house for the season… especially in the kitchen. One project on my to-do list, which I think would be fabulous to have completed in time for holiday entertaining, is a hanging herb garden. And since temps in Texas will be dropping in the next few weeks, I can’t imagine anything better than having a lush array of greens at arms-length. I’ve gathered some of my favorite herb garden designs and need your help to decide which one to recreate; leave a comment letting me know: which one would you like to see me DIY?

Miniature Gardens with a Beach Theme in Pots and Baskets Create your own little piece of beach or ocean front with sweet miniature gardens in pots and baskets! To create your beach theme miniature garden use a pot or a cocoa basket, then plant larger growing plants at the edge of the garden where they can spill out. You need to leave room for your beach scene! Cover the soil with beach sand and start designing your little piece of beachfront property. Place sea treasures here and there, and I think a Beach Dune Fence is a must. It defines the space so nicely.
Seashell Garden Ideas I'm thinking of adding some seashells to my little garden that I planted around one corner of my house. So I was looking for a few seashell garden ideas. Here is a simple "pot garden" idea that can go on a window sill or the balcony if you don't have an actual outdoor space. Edenmakers calls this seashell mulch. Even a single starfish (or seashell) can beach up a potted plant!
