A Life Enhancing Diet to Balance the Mind "Food is a dynamic force which interacts with the human on the physical body level, the mind emotional level, and also the energetic and spiritual level. The original Sattvic diet was devised for the development of higher consciousness. The ancient Ayurvedic criteria for foods to be considered Sattvic were quite simple: foods were grown organically on good rich fertile soil; foods were to be of attractive appearance, and be harvested at the correct time of year. Today, we need to add to these criteria for Sattva several other modern concerns. The Three Gunas Ayurvedic Principles Tamasic Foods Dark, and dull. Striving to be a better version of me: Living a Sattvic Lifestyle. In the last several weeks of our training, we have been discussing how to live a more sattvic life. Sattvic living means being balanced and living in harmony with nature. We learned about the three gunas - tamas, rajas and sattva. All three have a purpose and are important at certain points in our life and even throughout our day, but in general we want most things in our life to be of a sattvic quality.

The qualities of tamas are grounding or stable, but when out of balance, cause lethargy, heaviness, and confusion. Rajas is the opposite, bringing about energy, activity and passion but when out of balance results in anxiety, restlessness, and agitation. I always thought I had a very balanced, healthy diet/lifestyle until I started this training, and then I was completely overwhelmed at how much more there is to a "healthy" diet than counting calories or eliminating fast food. 1) Stick to organic, local produce and more leafy greens as much as possible.

Namaste! Moving towards a sattvic life - Ayurveda | Everyday Ayurveda. What does being sattvic actually mean? According to Ayurveda, sattva is the quality of nature that brings about balance, peace, purity and clarity. It is one of the three subtle qualities or ‘gunas’ that exist in all of nature. The other two qualities are rajas and tamas. Rajas is the quality of energy, movement and transformation that creates imbalance in life, while tamas is the quality of solidity, heaviness and stagnancy that creates inertia. If we want to become healthy or to maintain good health using an Ayurvedic approach, moving towards a sattvic life is a key element in this process. A highly rajasic person is extremely focused on doing, achieving and getting places, their lifestyle typical of modern fast-paced society. So we aim for sattva to balance, harmonise ourselves with nature, and to stay energised and healthy. The food that we eat naturally also contains the three qualities of nature and therefore is the biggest factor influencing which guna pervades in us.

Attitude: Moving towards Sattvic Lifestyle. Everything that we see in the world around us has some quality in it. From people to buildings, from the book we read to the music we hear, from our friend to our job profile, from our thoughts to our feelings, everything that exist can be divided into three categories (gunas); Sattvic – peaceful, alert yet calm;Rajasic – agitated and restless;Tamasic – dull, lethargic and sleepy. A meditation hall is sattvic while a shopping centre is rajasic. A house with cracks and cobwebs is tamasic. Many of us have so much tamas in us that we are not aware of the energies in and around us. As we become more and more sattvic, we become more and more aware of energy.

When we are feeling sad or low, it is often because our energy (Prana) is low. Therefore, eating foods that are high in prana can support us in regaining a positive state of mind. If you are feeling restless, chances are you have been eating too much of rajasic food. You live in this world as a body. Eat slowly. Sattvic Foods.
